"Open in App" as the default setting

I want to open PDF files in sharepoint to open in the app by default. We installed the Adobe Acrobat add-in for Microsoft, but it opens in the browser. 

 

I want to change the default setting behavior to always open in the "app". The SharePoint site setting is enabled for applications to open in the app/ instead of online. any thoughts?
