Exporting Text or as a Workbook from PDF adds spaces

I have a 65 page PDF document that I need to get the headings, descriptions and prices into a database... so I am exporting to a Excel workbook or TXT file... but doing either introduces spaces into the entire document - almost between every letter !! This is a nightmare to remove.

I believe its something to do with the variable space font used by the doc creator in Indesign... I don't have that document.

Any ideas on what I need to do to export the text in a format I can read ?

Possibly replace all text with a different font ?? I think i'm going to try that right now...
