We are an accounting office.  We have a subscription to sharefile... but most financial institutions will not work with sharefile.  Is the Adobe send and track a method a safe alternative?

Hi Steve,

To help you decide whether the Send &Track service fits your requirements, here is an overview of the workflows available for free and paid subscribers:

Free User:

  • Sign into https://cloud.acrobat.com
  • Click on the “Send & Track” tab
  • Click on the blue “Select Files to Send” button
  • Select a file that is local to your Computer or in your Document Cloud Storage repository
  • Add more files using the + Add Files button (Optional)
  • Click on the blue “Create Link button”.
  • Click on the field with the link and copy the selection to your clip board.
  • Navigate to your favorite email application to send the link

Notice that the link is anonymous and there is no tracking associated with it.

Each recipient can click on the link, in the email they have received which will navigate them to the Document Cloud from where they can click to Download it.

As a sender, you will be able to see how many times your file has been viewed by navigating to https://cloud.acrobat.com clicking on Files and selecting Sent Files from the FILE LISTS on the left hand side.

Paid User ($1.67/mo | $19.99/yr):

A paid user can follow the same steps as a free user, but they also have the additional option to send a personalized link which they can track. Here are the steps to send a personalized link:

  • Sign into https://cloud.acrobat.com
  • Click on the “Send & Track” tab
  • Click on the Send Personalized Invitations (with detailed tracking) option
  • Enter the address of the recipient(s)
  • Type in a Subject and a personalized message
  • Select a file that is local to your Computer or in your Document Cloud Storage repository
  • Add files using the + Add Files button
  • Click on the blue “Send” button to send the file. (Each recipient will receive a link by email and you will be notified when they follow the link)
  • You will receive a delivery receipt for each of the recipients on your list who has clicked on the link to view and/or download the files you sent.

Each recipient can click on the link  in the email they receive which will navigate them to the Document Cloud from where they can click to Download it.

As a sender, you will be able to see how many times your file has been viewed by navigating to https://cloud.acrobat.com clicking on Files and selecting Sent Files from the FILE LISTS on the left hand side.

Keep in mind that recipients are not required to submit a password in order to view the files you have shared with them.

Moreover, recipients, can forward the link you have shared with them with others.

If you decide to use the Send & Track service you should be aware of these aspects of the service particularly in the cases where you are sharing sensitive and confidential documents.

If using the outlook plugin to add documents to an email and selecting "use adobe send and track" instead of just attaching it as an attachment, does the tracking portion work if you pay for the service?  I tend to think it will ONLY track when using the website to send the files.....can someone confirm?

I receive emails for requests for documents, I like to hit reply and add them.  I do not want to have to open a browser in order to track who sees them.

We would like to be able to track the downloaded PDF file from "Send & Track", tracking stops after PDF been downloaded.

Is there is any mechanism to:

- limit the number of times a PDF been viewed or forwarded?

- track forwarding;

- track how many times the downloaded PDF forwarded;

If not using "Send and Track", what functions in PDF to achieve the above?  Thanks
