Adobe, Firefly Video, disappointment

I'm disappointed by Adobe yet again. Recently, they've faced backlash for their questionable subscription tactics, charging for cancellations, removing perpetual licenses for software, frequently changing pricing structures, and making certain essential features only accessible through higher-tier plans.

If you have a plan that includes all apps and Firefly is an Adobe application, wouldn’t it make sense that you have access to it? Unfortunately, no. Adobe demands extra money to use this particular app, allowing only two video generations in their “beta.”

So, you pay Adobe a subscription fee to access all their apps, but then to use one of those apps, Adobe asks for even more money. And if you decide to cancel your plan, guess what? Adobe requests even more money.

I understand that video generations are costlier than image generations. Smaller companies like Pika, Luma, and Halulio, which aren't massive billion-dollar corporations, can offer a genuine beta experience with a certain number of free videos per day at a slower processing rate versus a paid tier. Yet Adobe, for some reason, cannot achieve the same thing for its community. Instead, they ask for more money at every turn.

AI started as an open-source technology meant for everyone to be creative. These smaller companies that allow their community to actually test their products for free (with limitations) clearly have a better grasp of AI's history compared to a capitalist company like Adobe, which constantly demands more money from its community.

I'm truly disappointed by Adobe once more. I've been looking forward to trying their video generation, but any avid AI user knows two generations are never enough to "try it." I'm sorry, but you must have people on your team who haven't been using AI for years. If you did, they would understand that each AI generator is not the same. If you're used to prompting in Midjourney, that same prompt may not produce similar results in DALL-E. If you're used to prompting in Pika, that same prompt may not yield something similar in Luma. The technology might be the same, but the data can be vastly different, meaning the languages will also differ. Two videos are not enough to "talk" with your video model, to grasp the prompt style, motion, camera movement, weird aspect ratios, starting key frame, ending key frame, etc. It takes time to understand a new AI tool's unique features and quirks. You need to experiment with different prompts and settings to get a feel for how it works. Experienced AI users often compare multiple tools to find the best one for their needs, and with only two videos, it's challenging to make an informed comparison. The creative process involves a lot of trial and error- testing different ideas, refining prompts, and iterating on results are crucial steps that require more than just two attempts. Providing meaningful feedback to Adobe would require a more substantial experience with the tool. Users can't provide accurate feedback on its strengths and weaknesses based on only two generations.

While Adobe has been a leader in creative software, their current approach with Firefly feels more like a money grab than an effort to foster creativity and innovation. It's disappointing to see a company with such vast resources and influence prioritize profits over providing genuine value to its community. As an avid AI user, I believe that true innovation comes from accessibility and user feedback, not from creating unnecessary financial barriers. I hope Adobe reconsiders its strategy and aligns more closely with the spirit of the AI community, where creativity and accessibility go hand in hand.

Hi,

As a full package subscriber, video making via Firefly is not included in the package?

Should I have to buy another subscription only to add more credits and access to video making?

I think it's too wasteful because I normally don't use all the credits like 1000 credits which included in my full package. but have to subscribe and earn more credits only to use the video making is..

I don't think it makes sense.

Is there something I missed or should I really need to subscribe more to get premium credits?

If so, the name 'Subscription available to all apps' is not appropriate.

thanks for your help in advance.

Everyone has pointed this out but Adobe hasn't mentioned anything other than their customers having to also pay for a Firefly premium subscription on top of their previous Adobe subscription in order to access video generations.

How about you do not try to charge money , a lot of money for a Beta  product ,that does not even really work or produxce and good results.

The new Text to video you only offered 2 tests, that  gave worthless results, and then you want to charge for it ... with no way to first test it  proerly to see if it is useful in anyway..  are you nuts ??

If you want firefly to be ablet oat any point be useful, you need to allow peopel to properly test it .. addd a water mark or something,  but not eeven allow a proper test.. well  not a chance it will ever pay for it ..

I've been a loyal all-apps subscriber (and shareholder) for over 20 years and they can't even give us any video gen credits? Disgusting money grab. As someone who's invested both financially and professionally in Adobe's ecosystem for decades, I find it insulting that they advertise "all apps" access but then paywall Firefly behind additional fees. Two video generations isn't a trial - it's a teaser designed to extract more money. Smaller competitors offer genuine free tiers that actually let users learn their systems, but Adobe, despite its billions, can't extend the same courtesy to long-term customers? This nickel-and-diming approach is eroding the goodwill they've built over decades. Maybe it's time to reevaluate both my subscription and investment.

HI ,
I have monthly plan for Firefly.
I dont understand why I should pay for AI-generated videos , if the quality is bad .

You should only charge me for videos that I download and i am satisfied with the quality.
Right now it's like paying for the lottery !!!!

Its a rip off

I'm in the same boat as you!! It took me 3 times on the same clip to tweak the prompt to get what I wanted (almost!)

But then, I'm literally out of credits and gotta wait another month! Why can't they charge the credits upon download when we are satisfied with the quality!!

I don't get how I have whole suites of good, wroking tools at my disposal. But some janky AI beta costs money.
So.. what? When this goes alpha will need yet another subscription to make these videos? No thank you. I'd rather pay Pika labs or the like than give any more money to Adobe. Don't get me wrong, I grew up on Adobe. I use their products every single day. But this... this is too much.

I recently had a chat with Adobe and found out that my video usage goes over the 1000 credits per cycle included in my subscription. That’s a bit of a bummer. I can’t believe they’d do that. I mean, the only people who can afford what they’re charging for are high-end professionals, and I don’t think they’d be using this feature. Ive used adobe for MANY years. Now adays there are many altrenatives. I guess its finally time to let Adobe go. So disapointed and sad...

Thank you for the insight!
Wow, so generating a single video costs more than 1000 credits. That seems crazy to me, considering at this point the service is still in beta, the results are not that great and there are cheap tools out there.

I'm also very dissapointed about the fact that I have to pay extra money for firefly , whithout being able to try it first. only 2 videos for free is not enough. I paid the monthly extra money for it, and I'm very upset about the video results I can get with the program. For example, I asked for a beautiful latina woman and it offers me this. I know that beauty standards are different for everyone but certainly this unaligned teeth and prominent nose is not what I expected.

It would be nice if it allow you more time to actual use the product to see it's true benefits and power, when you already have a subscription with adobe. I would also like to see if you could  try a feature that add photo's in with the request of the creationed video. for example: I want to create a video of my products and store but I would like the video to create with the added images as well as creating it's own.

pourquoi ??
