How can I get access to the InDesign API / Firefly Services for a POC?

Hello Adobe Team,

I am an independent developer using a personal Adobe account and I am building a proof of concept involving Adobe InDesign automation.

I would like to use the InDesign APIs under Adobe Firefly Services, specifically:

  • Processing an IDML document

  • Generating a PDF rendition from the IDML

  • Eventually using InDesign Custom Scripts to modify text, colors, and images

However, Firefly – Firefly Services does not appear in the “Add API” section of my Adobe Developer Console project.

Could you please confirm whether the InDesign API / Firefly Services can be made available for a personal developer account?

If a personal account is not eligible, could you please let me know:

  1. What type of Adobe plan or organization entitlement is required?

  2. Whether there is a trial or evaluation option available for a proof of concept?

  3. How I can request/provision access to the InDesign APIs?

I am specifically interested in testing the InDesign Rendition API for IDML → PDF initially, and the Custom Scripts API for document customization afterward.

    Thank you for the detailed question. Unfortunately the InDesign API is outside the scope of what I am able to help with here — my familiarity is with Firefly and the broader Firefly Services ecosystem rather than the InDesign-specific APIs.

    On the general point of access: Firefly Services is available as an add-on to Adobe Enterprise plans only and is not available to personal or individual accounts, which is why it does not appear in your Developer Console. Contacting Adobe Sales directly at https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/business/enterprise.html would be the right starting point for discussing Enterprise plan options.

    For the InDesign API specifics — the Rendition API, Custom Scripts API, and IDML processing — you are likely to get much more informed answers in the InDesign community forum: https://community.adobe.com/indesign-669
