After Effects crashes when I open sub comps (and use a second monitor)

Hi,Macbookpro (15" 2019) 32 GB ram, Radeon Pro 560x 4 GBmacOS Big Sur version 11.5.1latest After Effects For months I have been trying to solve this problem.  I spent an hour with someone on the phone at Adobe and they couldn't solve my problem. When I open subcomps after a short period of time AE crashes.  I subsequently wiped my computer clean and started from scratch but I still have the same problem. I thought maybe it was the LG monitor so I sent it to the shop. In the meantime I bought an LG (apple monitor) which is causing the same problem. When I remove the monitor on the macbookpro it works fine, so it has something to do with connecting to a monitor.

Also, what kind of connection are you using to connect the monitor?
