Creating this as a thread for all small tweaks and suggestions to help everyday use.
1.Being able to disable lock contraint for scale for selected layers in one go
Being able to control additional layer properties via expressions, i.e. visibility. This will need to be reflected in the layer visibility icon for example, that the visibility is connected to an expression
Being able to replace sound files and control sound properties like volume in Essential Graphics
If a layer has an expression, it would be nice to have an additional icon to be able to jump to the layer/layers, reference in that expression, and visa versa
Direct Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets access for spreadsheets, rather than having to create a middleman csv/tsv file
When using a linked csv/tsv and a user control dropdown effect, you can access the rows in the file with the dropdown by using “csv.dataValue”. This maps the dropdown index to the rows. When adding this to essential graphics to override the spreadsheet data, it is not possible to use he dataValue, and each row option in essential graphics, needs a hardcoded if else statement.
Having expressions syntax highlighted by default (or at least with a preference), rather than seeing the expression in the default white ui colour, until you click into it
Thank you for posting these, @JayLash! These are some great requests; some have already requested elsewhere in the Feature Requests.
Per “How to write a feature request”, it would be very helpful if you could post these as separate threads in Feature Requests. Having them all grouped in one post makes it very difficult for our team to gauge general interest in the individual requests, or having meaningful discussions around specific points.
To that end, I’ve moved this post over to the general/Questions section of the After Effects forums.
Don’t write us off just yet! As a motion designer myself, I know how helpful these improvements would be and would really love to see them become available. Is there a particular one that you think is most important?
For me probably the biggest QOL improvement would be timeline folders, maybe some kind of mixed later/nodal hybrid workflow. The problem is that having an exclusively layer based workflow means countless layers with duplicated effects, and navigating this is such a chore. The layers workflow needs some tweaks to bring it into the modern age, or it needs a better way to keep it all organised. It can't be neither.
And look nobody is having a go at the developers, but the company itself seems to have no idea what it's doing
Additionally, if you have an effect that has had property links/reletive property links, you should be able to jump back to the source driving effect from the references, and visa versa to the references from the driver. They should have an icon to show they are linked in the effect.
