Question

After update to Bridge v. 14.0.2.191 thumbnails are very low resolution

I was using the previous version of Bridge today without any problems, however, after updating to the latest version, all the thumbnails look very blurry.

I tried changing the thumbnail preview quality options to high quality, but this did not change the quality of the thumbnails.

If I use the thumbnail zoom slider and enlarge the thumbnails to a much bigger size, then they display at the correct resolution. Also, when I open Bridge, and the thumbnails load, for a split second they are sharp, but then revert to the blurry quality.  😞

I have attached an image of the blurry thumbnails.

Can anyone please advise if this is because I am doing something wrong, or is this yet another Bridge glitch?

Update: I deleted the latest version of Bridge and re-installed the previous version, however, I am dismayed to note that the previous version, now, also displays the blurred thumbnails, so I don't know what to make of this. Both Photoshop and Bridge were updated on the same day.

I would appreciate any help or advice with this problem.

My computer:

Windows 10 Professional 64bit

NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti GPU

NVIDIA Graphics driver DCH 551.52

32 GB RAM

Display Monitor - (4K) 3840 x 2160 resolution, Windows Display Scaling set to 200%

Been having this problem with August 2023: https://community.adobe.com/t5/bridge-discussions/bridge-thumbnails-are-behaving-in-a-way-that-cannot-be-normal/td-p/13719785

They got into a call and I showed them the issue you were talking about but nothing ever came of it unfortunately.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Could you share if it is reproducible on Bridge 14.0.1.137 as well?
Please share the sample file/files on which you are observing the issue at sharewithbr@adobe.com and mention this thread.

Thanks,

Hello Tanu.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

With reference to your question above, I deleted the latest version of Bridge, rebooted the computer, then re-installed the older version (14.0.1.137) and was horrified that the image degradation was also visible there as well. Whereas prior to the installation of the latest version, on the same day, 14.0.1.137 was not showing any problems. Since then, it doesn't look as bad as previously, but still not 100%.

I have attached a screen grab of my current re-installation of 14.0.1.137, vis-à-vis how they look in Windows Explorer Thumbnail view. When you magnify the image, the Windows Explorer version does appear to be of a better quality.

I will also send a copy of this to sharewithbr as you requested.

I just updated to Bridge 14.0.4.222 and the problem persists, albeit with a slight improvement: When I open the latest version of Bridge, one or two random thumbnails will display correctly (sharp definition), while all the others remain blurry. Clicking on the sharp thumbnails will cause them to become blurry as well.

I tried clearing the cache, but this did not help. Please see the attached screen grab to see what I mean.

Hi, @Glutenus Max, please go the Tools (menu) -> Cache -> Rebuild Casch for xx folder

Let us know if that solves the problem, thank you.

Much obliged for your post, Gary.

I did as you suggested. The actual option was to purge the cache, after which I could see it rebuilding each thumbnail. Unfortunately, at the size I had the thumbnails set previously, it still looks wonky. However, what I noticed is that, with reference to the thumbnail zoom slider, the thumbnails come into sharp focus at a certain magnification. I could not see any numeric designation for the zoom slider, but I can describe it in the following way. If I move the slider all the way to the left, which corresponds to the minus sign, and then start enlarging the thumbs by clicking on the plus sign at the far right, the thumbs look blurry up to and including the 17th click, but miraculously become sharp on the 18th click and beyond. That's about 2 clicks more than my original setting, so I have adjusted the zoom to correspond to the 18th level of zoom. I can live with that, but it's a bit annoying (I'm getting old and set in my ways).
