Bridge 2024 (Version 14). Still not ready for prime time! Why is this so hard?

Bridge 2024 (Version 14), was released today. It is still painfully slow. Manually moving photos is a horrible task.

Luckily, Bridge 12 still works perfectly. If it ever stops working my entire workflow is in big trouble!

Hello @markf19643392 , @Tom-P

Thanks for reporting the concerns.

To further investigate this issue, it would be very helpful if you can share below information :

1. Desktop environment : OS details, RAM/CPU details

2. If its specific to file operations such as moving of files, would you be able to share the type of files that you are dealing with? Any sample files would also be super helpful. You can email them to sharewithbr@adobe.com

3. Is the slowness something that your are observing only with Bridge 2024 ?

4. Is the slowness w.r.t. to an operation taking longer or causing the application to freeze?

Thanks for helping us.

@MazStudios  - Many thanks for creating a separate post and sharing details. We will review and update.

Regards,

Bridge team.

I'm so beyond frustrated. I had just finished editing everything and went to batch my files and it wouldn't let me without an update to 14.0.4. I updated and now it can't read any of my files. Like why let me edit everything? Who has time for this!? I was all set to finish this job and deliver images and now i'm stuck either having to start over or problem solving like i don't have anything better to do. Adobe needs to knock some money off for the time we lose with this.

Hi, @defaultvd82eehsnsys, can you please be more specific as what happened? Since you cannot edit files in Bridge, I'm not sure if you edited them in Adobe Camera Raw or Photoshop (or ??).

Also, where are the files located? Have you given Bridge access to those folders? (This would be an Apple thing, not an Adobe thing.)

Any information you can add to this might let someone from these forums help you.

OK, Mac OS 14.4.1, Mac Pro 2019, 256 gb memory,  Internal Pegasus R4I storage.......

What has Adobe done to Bridge? I echo the sentament here. This used to be a great tool. Now it is slow, and my great frustration is that for some reason the program will not read updates to the hard drive. Case in point, I moved new images to a folder and want tu use Bridge to get to CR and it does not acknowledge the new files. I am not sure what I have to do, reboot the system or what. I add another folder to the system and Bridge will not see it. I am a LONG time Adobe user and I have never seeen Bridge this bad.

Ok, I turned my MacPro off and back on and still Bridge will not load the new files to my folder. I am left to use Photo Mechanics.

Hi, @ERobicheaux, where is the new folder located? If it's on an external drive or the Desktop, you may be facing Apple's protection scheme that limits what applications can access unless you give them permission. Adobe has nothing to do with that.

So, where is the folder located, and have you permitted Bridge to access folders? (Again, this is an Apple thing, not Adobe.)

Yes, Bridge 2024 is incredibly unreliable.  I cannot launch Bridge 2024 with any confidence it will work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it freezes after launching, not accepting any commands. I am now behind work due to this. It's a little better than playing the lotto, but not much.  Adobe, pls fix this. I am paying you for a useable product.  I would assume with all the resources you have, you would have tested this version thoroughly.  Very disappointing. How can I uninstall 2024, and re-install the V12 version?

Hi, to uninstall and reinstall an earlier v...Uninstall---  CC -> all program->the menu up to the right on Bridge -> uninstall.

reinstall earlier v... The menu to the right of the "install" button-> other versions-> the version you want.

You're not kidding. I love the way Adobe deflects with asks about OS and Hdw.   I have a 32 core ThreadRipper, 256G of Ram,  RTX3090, and 8TB Raid0 (where my images and cache are).  Power far beyond reason.  This new Bridge takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r just to gen some thumbnails on a folder with onyl 110 pngs.  Old version it was almost instant.   I blew away the cache thinking just refresh. Nope.  This is just horrible, untested, crappy code deployed to production by people who haven't got a flipping clue how to do their jobs.   I have been a Systems Architect for over 25 years - if my teams deployed something like this  I would first make them fix it - then I would term every one of them.

Hi

Do you have many HDD and many partitions?  Close the Folder window in Bridge and it works again. It seems like B don't manage too many HDDs or partitions.
To get in to change it, on open B hold Shift, Alt, Ctrl and clear the cache in the dialog that turn up.

Thank you for responding.  I just launched Bridge 2024 to do as suggested and it seems to be working now for some reason.  I don't know why and I have not done anything since the problem.  Previously I did 3 or 4 hard boot of my PC hoping to clear out any residual cache with no effect.  To answer your question, I have 5 HDD connnected. As a curiousity, I tried hold Shift, Alt, Ctrl on opened Bridge and no dialog appeared. Just no reaction. Did I miss something?  thx again.

Hi

You have to hold the keys untill Bridge start... then you get that window.  When i had that problem it worked when i did that but if i closed Bridge and opend it again it froze again. I have 6 HDD and 12 partitions so it seems to be the problem for Bridge.... It is not our PCs that can't coope with Bridge, it is Bridge that can't coope with our PCs.

Yesterday my Bridge 2024 was working fine.  This morning after launching it froze.  Did not accept any commands.  Had to Ctrl Alt Delete to close app.  Would appreciate any ideas on solving this issue.  Thanks

Sorry to hear that. We're having the same exact issues with 2023 update, 2024 release and Beta updates of Bridge. We've had to revert back to 2022 which you may want to try. Alternatively you might want to reset Bridge by pressing ctl-alt-shift at the same time immediately after you restart Bridge and follow the instructions. It may help, it may not. It's Adobe were talking about after all :(...  Best of luck.

All I really want is to be able to use Bridge 12 for peroruity! It is as
close to perfection that one can get with DAM.

I am not asking for Adobe to admit how bad the subsequent versions are!
Please just let us use what works for us!

Nothing else really matters!

Bridge 14.0 lost the locations of all my Smart Collections. I can see the names of each of them, but when I click any one of them, it shows the Home folder (Applications, Desktop, etc.). When I go to edit the Smart Collection, it says the location is "Current folder" instead of where I want to look. So it thinks Home is the current folder.

I restored an earlier version of Bridge (13, 2023) which was working. On first (re)launch, I got a window saying "New startup script found: The Bridge extension bridge-14 has been added to Bridge. Do you want to enable it now?" I clicked No, and Bridge 13 appears to be working normally. I'm going to uninstall 14 until they fix this.

I am on a 15" MacBook Pro (2018) 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7, with 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 memory and a Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB card, running Mac OS Ventura 13.6.

Save yourself this aggravation! Go back to Bridge 12.

This should be easy for Adobe. Just go back to Bridge 12 until they are
absolutely sure that these issues are corrected.

In fact, from a technical standpoint, I never understood what they were
trying to accomplish that made the newer versions of Bridge so terrible!

Hi

After a bit more troubleshoot i think i found the reason to my frozen Bridge.... It dosen't like when the "Folders" is showing. When i shut that down Bridge works. I could be bc i have 6 HDD and on them 12 partitions. May be too much for Bridge. Not a Excuse but maybe a explenation. I shall take contact with Adobe Support and make them aware of that problem. But i still have images that have become corrupted due to this malfunctiom Bridge.

Yeah, I have just defaulted to staying with Bridge 2022 for as long as possible because Bridge 2023 sucked and it is apparent that 2024 sucks just as bad. They are both slow and janky and unnecessary overall as the 2022 version was near perfect.

The same here. I could work as long as 2 days in Bridge 2024. It's practically unusable compared to 2022.

The Bridge team is a big failure and it seems that nobody recognizes this.

None of my subfolders are showing in Bridge 14.0 - or now Bridge 13.03 either! I have Ventura 13.5.2.
Luckily, I still have the Beta version, which works correctly. I tried resetting my preferences in 14.0 to no avail!
What is going on?

Hi @Al Carfagna

Could you please check and confirm for which folder, subfolders are not shown in Bridge.
Please check if it has required permissions to access files..
