Question

How to animate images and add colour/texture to slides

I'm finding my way around Captivate so please forgive me if these are silly questions!

I would really like to jazz up my text slides and wanted to animate my images/company logos. Presumably this would have to be done using Flash and then imported into Captivate?
Also, what is the best way to add colour/texture to slides with text?

Thanking you in advance.

    Thanks for that.
Yes, I am using Captivate 2.

Ideally I would like my logo to move from A to B on the same slide. I imagine that the zoom effect will animate the logo as if someone were running a magnifying glass along it - is that correct?

    Hi again PPMart

Well, conventional wisdom would suggest that this is the only way it can be used, yeah.

Actually, I'm fairly unconventional. Yes, you may actually use the Zoom object to just make an object move across the screen. You may also use it to zoom OUT as opposed to IN! Click here to see a few zoom examples.

To make an object move... Hmmm, thinking about it, it may well just be easier to give you a Captivate .CP file that has something doing this. Give me some time and I'll post a .ZIP on my site that you may download that you can look at using Captivate and maybe it will make more sense. Will that work?

I plan on replying to this in a short while with a download link.

    Cheers... Rick

I just placed another Captivate movie up on my site. See if it helps any.

    Hi PPMart

Hey, which is sillier? Asking for help with something you aren't familiar with or sitting silently and being frustrated when all you had to do is ask? Personally. I find the latter to be the sillier approach.

    Okay, on to your questions!

If you are referring to animating your company logo in the manner where it repeatedly performed some visual movement, I'm guessing the answer here is that you would indeed need some Flash skills for that. However, if you just wanted to perhaps animate the logo across the screen into its resting position, you could easily accomplish this (assuming you are using Captivate version 2) using the new Zoom Area object. (Insert > Zoom Area...)

For adding color/texture to slides, you would normally do this using the Slide Background attribute. Right-click the slide of your choosing and click Properties... from the context menu. Once there, (again, if you are using Captivate 2) click the Change background image... button to select an image to use, or if you just want a color, forget about the button and click the box next to the Custom option and choose your desired color.

    Hope this was helpful... Rick
