catalog corrupted

I am trying to move my LR catalog to a new PC. The catalog works fine on old PC and on external drive when external drive is plugged into new PC but says is corrupted when trying to move the catalog from the external drive to the internal drive of new PC and will only open LR in the background. the auto repair process does not help. any suggestions please? thx
