Chromebooks and Adobe Connect

Hello.

I'm investigating Chromebooks and wonder if anyone has any comments about using Adobe Connect on Chromebooks?

I can make some assumptions about how they perform:

  1. no Connect addin, so as a result;
  2. no screenshare

Otherwise, I would expect Connect to run just like it would do in Chrome on a PC or Mac for both Hosting and participation. Can anyone confirm this?

With Chromebook use being so low I don't know anybody that has one that I can test properly.

Some key questions I'm looking to have answered:

  1. has anyone encountered any problems connecting headsets or external webcams into Connect via Chromebook?
  2. does Connect still suffer from the occasional Flash crash that kicks you out of the meeting?
  3. do file uploads to Connect central from a Chromebook work as expected?
  4. do custom pods work as expected?

Many thanks in advance of any advice that can be given 😃

I don't use Chromebooks, but some of our other staff members have them (so I'll steal one of theirs for a few minutes and test it out). If I run across anything frustrating, I'll let you know.

Ok, I just sat down with a Chromebook and was able to upload files, and do all normal non-add-in functions in Connect.

I believe you should be good to go there.

We use it for running a class, every day. Adobe on Chromebook is not stable. I experience frequent drops in my mike connectivity.  Application not running on Chromebook also creates a lot of problems - for us as well as for students. These are common complaints in my college, from all the instructors (over 100).

Of course, adobe has many other functionality issues too for use as a class delivery platform.

Hi, if there is anyone that could help me with this that would be great.

I am a student and have have one of my subjects online on adobe connect. I used to run it on my bigger lapotp and it would let me add a textbox to write in to answer the teacher's questions on the powerpoint/whiteboard. However, I have just bought a Lenovo Chromebook duet and it seems to let me do everything but add text to the screen, only lets me draw which isn't helpful.

Anyone know if there is anything that can be done about this?

Thank you in advance

I do not believe that is an option on Chromebooks.

I have a student who is using a Chrome Book and is needing to watch a recording of class with Adobe Connect. They have the link to the recording but it is not allowing them to play it. What advice can I give them?

They will either need to enable Flash for the page playing the recording or watch in the HTML client. The HTML client may not be available if it is still associated (in the Recordings section) of a Meeting that has the HTML option disabled. You could try enabling the HTML option for the room or moving the recording to the Content Library.

A Chromebook is basically running the Chrome web browswer as it's OS. So anything you can do it Chrome, you can do in a Chromebook.

You are correct in assuming no add-in and thus, no screen sharing. The add-in is also required for sharing PPTX content. PPT content will work without the Add-in.

I'll look into the file uploads from a Chromebook and get back to you. Webcams and headsets should work. Not sure what you mean by the occational Flash crash, I haven't seen that problem before. The issues with the version of the Flash Player API that Chrome uses has been resolved, so you should be fine there. Custom pods will work as expected.

Many thanks Jorma =)

Do you often use your Chromebook with Connect? Any particular frustrations/pain points of hosting from it beyond the lack of addin?

Thanks,
