Question

Why approve/disapprove hand-raise?

Can someone help me understand why the host must be given the opportunty to approve or disapprove a participant's hand-raise?  Is there a way to turn this off?

It would be better to just lightly the participant who has a rasied hand (bring to top of list, add icon, maybe a brief message bubble), but the way it is now, the speaker/presenter on video is covered over every time someone raises a hand.  What exactly does approve mean?  If I approve, does that mean the hand stays raised?  If I disapprove, is it lowered.

I think there's room for improvement here.  Just trying to understand if there's a reason for it being this way.

The reason why the host of a virtual meeting must be given the opportunity to approve or disapprove a participant's hand-raise is to help maintain the flow and order of the meeting. By requiring participants to request permission before speaking, the host can manage who gets to speak and when. This can be especially useful in larger meetings where many people want to speak, as it allows the host to prevent multiple people from talking at once and potentially causing confusion or chaos.

However, some virtual meeting platforms allow the host to turn off the hand-raise feature or set it to automatically approve participants' hand-raises. If you would like to turn off the hand-raise approval feature, you should consult the specific virtual meeting platform's documentation or support resources to learn how to do so.

Because the raise hand function is like having someone raise their hand in a live setting. If you approve it, they are granted the ability to speak over VoIP. If you disapprove, then their hand is put down and they don't get the ability to speak over VoIP.

The dialog can't be turned off, but you could rearrange the pods in the room so that the presenter video is somewhere eles. Say, on the left side of the room?

Hi.  Thank you.  That makes sense.  It's a little narrow though.  Normally we keep participant mics on or off, and participants may just want to respond in chat, while others who want to speak can just unmute themselves and do so.

Next questions (and I guess I can observe myself... but for the benefit of the community), does "Allow" override the "Enable Particpants to use Mic", and let them speak?  Or does it just "Unmute"?  If "Deny" does it prevent the user from unmuting?

If you have the option to allow everyone to have access to the microphone, that overrides the access portion of the raise hand function. So, it becomes a tool to notify you that someone has a question, and accepting or denying the raised hand doesn't really have any different of a function.
