Creative Cloud updates trigger laptop to restart

Whenever Creative Cloud detects that one or more of my Adobe apps need to be updated, it triggers my laptop to restart with no warning. It happens every couple of months, or whenever Photoshop or InDesign have an update. My laptop suddenly restarts while I’m in the middle of work, with no notification. I then go to Creative Cloud and can see that there are updates available for an app. Installing the updates doesn’t make it restart.

How do I stop this from happening?? It is very frustrating. I have reinstalled all apps and Creative Cloud app, but still happens.

Laptop was new in January and it has been doing this since. I already had to upgrade the RAM because Photoshop and InDesign for some reason couldn’t cope with 16GB.

HP Probook
AMD Ryzen 7 7730U

Windows 11 Business version 25H2

Thanks for posting, @SimplyAli, and thanks to @kglad and @Peru Bob for their input.

I can understand how disruptive this would be, especially if the restart occurs while you're actively working and without any warning.

As @kglad mentioned, there isn't anything in the Creative Cloud desktop application that should intentionally trigger a Windows restart simply because updates are detected. Since you've already reinstalled both Creative Cloud and the Adobe applications, and the behavior persists, I'd like to understand better the environment in which this is occurring.

Could you help clarify a few things?

    • Is this your personal laptop, or is it managed by your employer, school, or IT department?
    • Do you connect to a corporate network, VPN, endpoint security solution, or device management platform when this happens?
    • Does the restart occur immediately when Creative Cloud reports available updates, or do you first receive any Windows, security, or system notifications?
    • When the restart occurs, do you see a blue screen or a Windows "restarting" message, or does the machine power off and then reboot?
    • Have you checked the Windows Event Viewer for any critical errors or restart events that coincide with the unexpected restart?

I also noticed you have another discussion regarding Creative Cloud and application crashes. Are the crashes and the unexpected restarts happening on the same device, and do they typically occur around the same time as Creative Cloud update notifications?

It may also be helpful to review the Creative Cloud installation and update logs to see whether any errors are recorded around the time of the restart. Adobe provides instructions on locating those logs here:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/apps/troubleshoot/error-codes-and-messages/find-check-installation-logs.html

With those details, we may be able to determine whether this is related to Windows, device management software, drivers, or another process running alongside Creative Cloud rather than the Creative Cloud desktop application itself.

We look forward to your update, @SimplyAli.

It could be a hardware or driver issue.

there’s nothing in the cc desktop app that should trigger a restart.

google your os  and spontaneous computer restarts to see if there’s a known issue.
