transfer lightroom catalogue

My old computer died but I have recused the hard drive (D) and all of the files on the C drive. I now have a new computer. I have installed lightroom and photoshop on it. What I would like to do is transfer the old lightroom catalogue and all of the thousands of photos I have on the old hard drive onto the new computer. My photos were stored in well organised file structure, year then month and that structure is on the old hard drive. I know I could just copy all of the files across and then import them into my new catalogue, but I’m not sure this would mean I lose my edits? and I wonder if there is a better way. For ease of reference, my computer calls the old hard drive the F drive and the new computer has a massive D drive where I want all the photos to go. I’m not a novice but I’m not a teccy so hopefully a solution is easy to understand and implement.
