Adobe InDesign – Application Freezing and Functions Becoming Unresponsive

Dear Team,

I am facing a recurring and serious performance issue with Adobe InDesign. After working continuously for approximately 4–5 minutes, the application starts becoming unresponsive. The cursor begins showing the spinning/loading icon, and subsequently, around 80–90% of the InDesign commands and functions stop working.

Some of the functions that become unavailable or stop responding include:

  • Colour/Swatches and related panels

  • Undo/Redo commands

  • Alignment functions

  • Constrain Proportions for height and width

  • Object and formatting-related commands

  • Various other tools, panels, and standard InDesign functions

Once the issue occurs, I am also unable to close InDesign normally. The application does not respond to the Close command, and I have to terminate it manually through Windows Task Manager.

After reopening InDesign, everything initially works normally. However, after another 4–5 minutes of working, the same issue occurs again. This has been happening repeatedly and is significantly affecting my productivity and workflow.

To rule out any Windows or system-related issue, I have already formatted my PC and performed a fresh installation of Windows 11. Despite the complete reinstallation, the problem is still occurring in Adobe InDesign.

Since the issue persists even after a clean Windows installation, I would appreciate your assistance in identifying the root cause. Please let me know if there are any specific troubleshooting steps, preferences/cache files, plug-ins, graphics settings, hardware acceleration settings, or other InDesign configurations that I should check.

I would also appreciate it if you could advise whether this could be related to the current InDesign version, GPU/graphics drivers, fonts, third-party plug-ins, or any other compatibility issue.

This issue is occurring consistently and is making it very difficult to work efficiently in InDesign. I would be grateful for your guidance on resolving it permanently.

Please let me know if you require any additional information, system specifications, screenshots, crash reports, or diagnostic files from my side.

Kind regards,
Arshad
