Question

Authorizing my nook

I have followed all the procedures for registering my nook with B&N and I also have downloaded ADE and established an Adobe ID the same as my nook's ID.  Everyplace I read I am suppose to be able to open ADE and then plug in my nook and ADE is suppose to recognize it and allow me to authorize it.  I have had no luck as ADE does not recognize my nook when I plug it into to the computer and I can't find any suggestions on how to correct this. Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do.

Thanks

tom

I found a work-around: In The ADE 4.5 Library, hi-light books you want to export, go up to "file" on taskbar and select "show in windows explorer, in a separate window open another Windows Explorer, select Nook/Internal Storage/Nook/Files.

You can drag and drop your hi-lighted books from Explorer ADE  into to the Explorer Nook/ / / Files folder. This should work until B&N and Adobe get their stuff together so the Nook will actually be recognized by ADE.

I wish this worked for me, but I am still getting the same message when I drag and try to open this in "my files."

I always used ADE and my Nook with no problems on our old computer but we just recently had to bite the bullet and get a newer computer.  Went from XP to Windows 8.  Anyhow, ADE recognizes my Nook but when I try to drag the book over it says I'm not authorized to copy it.  I tried deleting the ADE file from my Nook but still no luck.  Just wondering if anything has changed in the last 4 years since this thread started!!

Oh wow, after reading through this thread and trying EVERYTHING, I discovered that ADE won't recognize a Nook HD no matter what you do. *facepalm*

But that's okay, because you don't even need it. Just install a free app called "Overdrive" from the Google Play store. It will allow you to directly download and read your library e-books, as well as library audio files. And they make it easy. Phew!

This is a long post, It had every thing I have done over the last 3 days at the end is what I had to do and Nook still does not appear in ADE.  Hope this will help. NOOK is  not recognized by ADE 1St make sure you have an ADOBE ID Need to de-authorize your ADE press Crlt, shift,D key all at the same time. ( need to be in ADE to do this) Now authorize your computer thru ADE with your ADOBE ID click the help key a window will pop up **I have 2 ABODE ID accounts both work with my nook as long I de-authorized, then put the correct ADOBE ID in.   At the very end of this post is what I had to do, and the NOOK still does not show up in ADE. I run a system on Vista. 1st connect the Nook to the computer, pop window will appear, click view files, double click Internal Storage, Highlight (left click) Adobe Digitals file in NOOK and DELETE THE FILE.(right click, scroll to delete). I do not remember the exact name for the file, but it should be the first file in the line of files that appear. With internet connected go to the public Library website. You will need a Library card number and an account. Follow the prompts to set up a Library account if don’t have one. Browse thru the e-books and add the ones you want to your cart.(you must be login to check out.) -To check out go to your cart and the books you wanted will be there. (You are only allowed to check out so many books at a time) -For those who are trying to download books to the nook that already check them out go to the My Media tab, Sign in, click My Items out (this only works if they have not been returned, If you have no books then you need to browse the library.) From here on out the actions are the same for what was described above: - Plug in you NOOK. -Click download button. (open/Save as/ Save and open) -Click save or save and open. (I use the latter option.) -It will open ADE (Adobe Digital Editions) a Fulfilling window will appear then close and the book will be there. -click the back arrow labeled Library to go to the ADE bookshelf’s. (Upper left corner) -It takes you to ALL ITEMS( I work from this page, but resecently Added is a good page if you have lots of books. This page lists by date, so today’s books will be first.) -Right click (window will appear) -click ITEM INFO (new window) under read/return/close you will see location and an arrow -Click LOCATION ( it should be in black letters if it is red you need to unautherise your computer from ADE and sign in to the correct ADOBE account.) -Click the Black arrow slightly above the location. -That will take you to My Digitals Editions (make a note were the file is if you need to get back there.) -The book should be HIGHLIGHTED. (Leave it highlighted) -Go to the left side of the new window and use the scroll key it get to the NOOK.(Or you can single click black arrow next to the drive My Digitals Editions is on, that will collapse that drive, then scroll to the nook.) -The NOOK will not say NOOK, it will say BN...followed by letters and numbers. (It will be after the last hard drive in my case that is my E:drive.) -Single click the clear arrow next to the Nook (BN… ) it will expand. - Single click my files ( Profiles/B&N downloads/Logs/My Files), it will expand.       Books/Document/Magzines/…..Now -Left click, HOLD and drag the highlighted book to the  BN….My Files, books, a blue +copy will appear when the highlighted book is over any of the my files.(watch were you drop the book that will be where you will find it in NOOK. -Drop (let go of the left clicker) the highlighted book into the book section of the BN… My files books. - The window will Flash once, it happens quickly. This is where I check to see if the book will open in my Nook. Unlock your nook, touch Library, touch the list ion on the lower left, touch refresh, look in the books section of the NOOK Library, the downloaded book should be the last or near the end of the list so keep sliding that screen to the left. Touch the book that was just downloaded, touch reader, the book should open the book.  STILL NOT WORKING…. Read below. If not Reset the Nook to factory, then start the process over of registering the NOOK (all that you have done will be online at B&N.com.) Choose the option of having a B&N.com account, enter the same info as before. Do the same process as above (don’t forget to delete that Nook file at top of screen) but this time the Nook should pop up a screen where you put your Adobe ID. If not then you will have to do what I did factory reset the Nook, this time set up a new account and start all over. (don’t forget to delete that Nook file at top of screen). You will be starting from scratch and have to reinstall all apps, pictures, games, books….After you are done pulling your hair out, swearing, and wishing you never bought the thing. Fallow the steps above for getting the library books on the NOOK.

Thank you!  Deleting the file made it work.  This has been so frustrating for me - all I wanted was my library books on my Nook, and suddenly it stopped working.  Thank you again.

I've deleted the ade file from my nook, i've tried the same id as the nook, i've tried new ade id's. I'm running windows 7 64bit. Getting really frustrated with this, anyone have any idea?

thank you so much  i found the digital editions folder on my nook (my computer > nook > and then I deleted the folder, disconnected my nook, closed digital editions, launched digital editions and plugged in my nook. Then I was able to authorize the device. Finally I can borrow books from the library or get books from resources other than BN

I purchased a Nook while in Spain, however failed to authorize it prior to leaving the U.S.  Will I be able to authorize it here.  I will be in Spain for two months and would like to be able to use it here. Cek Kanunu

I realize I cannot download updates nor books directly from the B&N Web page but would like use it for other ebooks.

This problem may be solved for the rest of you but I'm still struggling.  I have followed all the advice here and on the Adobe instructions.   I had already downloaded ADE and authorized my Mac computer, over a year ago. So I first turned that on, and then plugged in my Nook.  I'd bought a book this week on line from EPUB.   I opened it with ADE;  it appears in library but the image won't drag.  I can read the book on the screen but the second  I go to the bookshelf list where I see my Nook, I lose the book.  This seems to be to be behaving as though I didn't authorize my computer, although it tells me I'm authorized, gives my correct address, and offers no opportunity to make changes.  So I dumped this ADE in the trash and downloaded a new version.  Darn if it didn't turn out to be exactlly the same, complete with authorization and the new shelf I had added.  So what do I do now?

Did you try Conaty's fix (#76)?  It is linked in my message just above yours.  I have a Windows PC laptop and was able to fix the problem there and then finally I could authorize my Nook on the Mac. Do you have access to a PC?

I was working 3 threads trying to solve this and had tried evrything except the PC solution, up to now and was lined up to try that later today.  I checked for book in Documents. I reloaded ADE, redownloaded the book into ADE, checked authorization of Mac and ADE  and registration of Nook. I tried every possible sequence of turning off and on ADE and Nook.   Both my nook and book showed in the library along with all the 20 other e-books there.  But no power on earth was going to get that book to drag. I called Adobe.  I had an on-line chat with them.  They promised that someone would get back to me. Last night I took screen shots in hopes that would help--both the message that said the book couldn't be copied and the one that said it could.  Elves must have come in the night!  This morning, pretty as you please, the book dropped into my Nook, to be found as predicted, in the Documents folder.  An earlier posting had related this sort of time lapse success.  I admit I was dubious--thought that person must have just overlooked something--until it happened to me.  But all is now good and the book is readable.  Thank you for your suggestions.

I've spent hours reading all these posts and tearing my hair.  Deleting files,

rebooting, you name it.  Finally, I opened up my documents on the Nook and there was my book.  It wasn't in the regular B&N library.  Who knew?  Finally good to go.
