Placing Decals and Models

What are best practices with placing decals on objects? Are ai files, jpegs, png best and is there a certain size they should be? I have trouble with some bluriness.

Also with models that are imported, is it possible to separate them so different colors can be added? For instance I have a strawberry, but the berry and stem are all one. I don't know how to make the stem green and the berry red.

rule 1 = a Decal never goes all the way around a model... this is what catches out new users more than anything

if you need your label to wrap a full 360 then set it to Fill not Decal

rule 2 = text works best in standard fonts of witch web-safe fonts are the ones most people should use. if your text is some random font then it will be converted to an image as part of the rendor and that offen results in streched pixels

rule 3 = less is more, new players assume setting a large canvas will result in better raz of image but the rez of the model is more important [normally] a canvas of 1024 or 2048 [square] will give a better rendor than setting it to 20000 or whatever the current max is
