Hello Eveyone,

I have been strugelling with the UV map from Dimension and Stager.

Seems like the UV never lines up as I wish it would. At first I belived to be the error on my end as I was the one that designed the can. However after using Adobe's files that are within dimention and even from stock.adobe.com, I ended up with the same results. Seems as this happens on this shapes. Has anyone expirience this if so, have you found a good solution or work around?

I have a attached some screenshots in hope that someone could have a solution.

I have also tried contacting Adobe Customer service and they don't seem to have a solution or even know what is happening.

Hi

USSNorway is correct. You need to use software that gives you control over where to place the seams and how the model unwraps, rather than just an automated unwrap. Blender 3D is free and will give you the controls you need for that simple object. There is software around that specialises in unwrapping, but you won't need it in the example you show.

why = because the AI sees that angle as it unpacks the model i.e, starting from the top left seam... they don't think but just follow a set of rules

how can you fix it = unwrap the model in any true 3D software like wrap 3d, Blender or Maya, where you [the human] can take some control of the way models are wrapped... in this case the middle of the can is the important part because thats where a label goes

tried contacting Adobe Customer service = wow did they even know Adobe has software called Dimension? their job is to take your credit card details and thats where their training ends but they should have told you to ask questions in the forums so give them that much

p.s, its not just Adobe AI which doesn't think and you could get this same result in Blender or whatever... the difference is that software has steps to fix it

Sorry, you mentiond Ai. However, this is happening both on Adobe Substinance 3D Stager and Dimentions where I am generating and exporting the  UV MAP. I would belive that both Dimention and Stager would be able to handle this as they are specifically made for this type of use. Also not using AI for the UV MAP.
