CC Cloud Desktop Updates Hang

For a few months now, the Updates for any of the CC desktop apps have been, and are still, VERY slow to download. And then, it will stall out anywhere from ¼ to ½ way through the download.

Adobe acknowledges this by having a “pop-up” message at the bottom of the screen stating there is a problem and they are working/trying to resolve the issue.

I have cancelled the downloads, restarted the computer and restarted the whole update process but to no avail. I have done this multiple times and what is puzzling, is that after I do all this, I have to re-install the apps, which I was trying to update, and the download process (of installing the apps from scratch) works just fine … and is installed with the latest updates.

It’s just the “Updating” process that has a problem.

It is not my computer causing this as all my other apps run and update just fine … and it is not my Internet connection which speed tests at around 170Mbps DL / 40Mbps UL.

So, Adobe … why is this happening? It is obviously at your end as I have read other posts in this forum asking/stating the same thing.

Please resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Troubleshooting steps / guidance mentioned by other participants

    • Kglad (Community Expert) suggested resetting the Creative Cloud desktop app by pressing Ctrl + Alt + R (Windows) or Cmd + Option + R (Mac). If the update seems stuck, wait a few minutes, as progress can be irregular.
    • Tarun Saini (Community Manager) recommended steps include signing out of Creative Cloud Desktop, closing the app, reopening it, and signing back in; reinstalling using the cleaner tool; ensuring proper system permissions (especially on macOS); and temporarily turning off VPN/firewall.

    Suggested solutions by Adobe
    1. Creative Cloud app updates stall or hang partway through. If you're experiencing issues with Creative Cloud app updates stalling or hanging partway through, try resetting the Creative Cloud desktop app. First, bring the app to the foreground. Then, press Ctrl + Alt + R (on Windows) or Cmd + Option + R (on Mac) to reset it. After that, attempt the update again.

    2. If the download keeps freezing at a specific percentage, try following the troubleshooting steps for downloads and updates. This includes signing out of your account, signing back in, and attempting the download again on a stable internet connection.

    3. Close any background applications and processes that might interrupt installation or updates before retrying.

    4. Eliminate network interference by checking common connectivity issues and temporarily disabling your VPN or firewall during the update process.

    5. If the update renders the app unusable or "damaged," use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, then reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop app.

OK … well, my previous updating adventure for LRC and ACR were executed as expected BUT … today’s updating of ID, not so much … as it stalled out again.

What’s strange is, that this time, after I closed down CC and then rebooted my computer … I went back into CC and ID was still showing up as needing the update.

My previous (failed) updating experiences, CC did not show the applications installed after I rebooted. So I had to reinstall the entire application (PS, PP, etc...) but it did include the updates.

Strange. Oh well, there are worse things in life to deal with. As long as I can somehow get it to work is all that really matters. But at the same time, it would be nice to not have to go through all the work-arounds.

Maybe Adobe should run Anthropic’s Mythos to find the issue.

OK … today I successfully updated LRC (v 15.3.1) and ACR (v 18.3.2) with none of the issues that I mentioned originally. Amazing!!!

Hopefully, it will continue like this for all future updates.🙏

The same thing has been happening to me for several months. Everything exactly as you mentioned. It is desperate to be like this and that the constant solution is not to update the applications or uninstall and install with everything it implies.

first try, resetting the cc app: To reset the Creative Cloud desktop app, make sure it's in the foreground, then press: Win: Ctrl + Alt + R Mac: Cmd + Opt + R

if that fails to resolve the issue, try a repair by using the cc desktop app uninstaller/repairer - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-desktop-app/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

    kglad -

Thank you for your reply and link.

The whole point of this, is that I should not have to do this as everything was working just fine months before.

And I had it running on both a Win10 and MacOS computers (not at the same time of course).

I’ve already figured out what to do to get things “sorted out and running properly” as I stated in my original post. But, as I just stated, I should not have to do this (or your solution that you provided) as the update process was performing just fine months ago.

    Thanks again!!!
