Creative Cloud 2017 Extremely Slow

Hello!

I know there are previous discussions on this topic, but no one seems to have a valid resolution. I did the updates for the new CC '17 updates last week and have since then been unable to work in any of the programs. I'm a freelance designer and these updates have made it impossible for me to do any work. I open a photoshop, it takes forever to load and then I'll try to toggle between tools as I go and it lags, I'll try to start a new doc, it lags, etc. This happens at the very least in Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator.

My system stats are below:

OS:  macOS Sierra v. 10.12.1

MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)

Processor: 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

I have 46.71 GB available of 120.GB on my mac.

I store almost everything but applications and temporary files on an external 1 TB hard drive.

I really don't want to uninstall the 2017 update, but I'm at the point where that seems like my only option. I'm supposed to go to print on a monthly publication on Friday and I haven't been able to work in the programs to get the work done because of how slow it is.

Honestly, I just ended up doing a back install to the CC 2015.5 version of photoshop, indesign, and illustrator. Those are the programs I use the most often for my work. If you're paying for the full CC, you should be able to install previous versions of a program. I had to completely uninstall every adobe product on my mac though, so it was a little time consuming. Below is a link to the site I used to help me get back to the old programs, as well as some screen shots for what you want to look for on the CC app manager thing. (I found the directions a little wordy and not that clear, tbh.

Directions:

Install a previous version of any Creative Cloud application

Screen shots:

http://prntscr.com/dczn9i

http://prntscr.com/dczngb

http://prntscr.com/dcznsc

http://prntscr.com/dcznxg

I'm not sure what version will work best for what you're working with. But, you should have access to all of those versions shown in my last screen shot.

I'm going to keep working with these version until the put out the next update and if I face the same issues with whatever new updates they throw out, I'll keeping going back to the version I'm currently using now. If it proves to be a continuous thing, then you can bet I'll be finding different programs to work in.

Anyway, hope this helps!

I don't see how reverting to a previous version would really be marked as the "correct answer." Was this fixed for real without a retrograde required?

This is what I see for several minutes each time I try to load Adobe CC App. I've already restarted twice in the last 1/2 hour. SpeedTest shows a connection speed of 12Mbps which should be adequate.

I have similar issues. I can start up my mac and I have no cloud at all. I need to then restart my mac again. I do not always notice it at first, only when I am in the middle of a design job, then a pain to have to save and restart my mac in the middle of a job. Just a thought you mentioned you restarted a couple of times and still an issue. Maybe if you actually sign out of the cloud before the restart and then when rebooted sign back into the cloud. See if that helps. I think this is an issue at their end and we take hours thinking it is something our end. Maybe some of the other contributors have better info on this. Just wanted to say you are not alone as it can be quite frustrating at times.

I get that all the time too. My fonts de-synch. I ended up just downloading all of my fonts and manually installing them rather than having to have them crap out midway through a project on deadline.

Adobe need to figure this one out for professionals running a business that can't afford to have a machine suddenly disconnect access to files needed for a job. Cache them to the hard drive for god's sake. It can't be that hard!

Just an update, I invested in a new iMac from Apple. it has cured all the slow speed to open Adobe cloud apps I am using, photoshop, etc. Now instead of taking some 4 minutes to open the cloud software, it is taking about 25 seconds.

I am using Sierra 10.12.5.

I needed to upgrade my Mac as I had a 2008 model. I realise not everyone wants to upgrade their Macs, but it has worked for me and I am pleased I do not have to sit and wait forever now for the cloud software to open.  maybe Adobe are trying to make the software work with the latest OS and it leaves some of us behind, or maybe it's the RAM and lack of it. My Mac has 8gb ram, my old one had 4

I found a better solution so you can keep up to date with the latest release. I noticed the big delay seemed to be while photoshop was loading the recent documents launch screen. All those files and pretty image previews are a lot to load in addition to the software itself. I went to Edit>Preferences>General ...and unchecked Show "Start" Workspace when no documents are Open. Upon the next launch I noticed the startup time went from a full minute to a few seconds. However, there was something I liked about seeing image previews of my recent documents, because i can simply tap them on my Cintiq tablet. So in the same preferences tab, just below the one I unchecked, is Show "Recent Files" workspace when opening a File. I checked this, restarted photoshop, and now i get the cool recent documents layout only when using the Open command. And this doesn't take long to load unlike having it show up on startup. Hope this helps ya'll.

In trying to follow your advice to go to "Edit>Preferences>General ...and uncheck Show "Start Workspace when no documents are Open", I found it was checked but also greyed out, so unable to uncheck it. I wonder what is causing that?

I reset my preferences to try and reproduce a scenario which would grey out the box like you mentioned, but it doesn't happen in my version. I'm running the latest update of the full CC 2017 version. I have attached a screenshot of what I have going on hoping that helps you. Other than that I might suggest trying to check and/or uncheck other boxes first to see if it lets your greyed out box become active. I've seen that be the case in other programs. If none of that works you might have a limited version, or it could be a simple limitation of your hardware compatibility. I'm really not expert enough to say, perhaps open a support ticket with Adobe after trying all this. I will say that what I did dramatically reduced the load time. And I'm glad you prompted me to take another look at my prefs, because I checked yet another box, "Use Legacy "New Document" Interface. This made things even faster with bypassing the new document UI layout. Checking these two gets rid of the new eye candy Adobe decided to add and lets it run on the older, but faster performing UI graphics. Good luck!

I am having the same trouble with photoshop and Illustrator. I have previous versions of both programmes pre cloud and they work really fast. I am not impressed with the speed of things, sooooooo slooooow to work with. I do not have the time as a designer to work like this. Adobe should take note if you see these posts.

Adobe, try getting a job out that a client needs like now and where something would take say 15 minutes it's taking 40 minutes. Have you over-complicated things, are you looking and working as we do, are you testing things? We need to be able to talk to tech staff direct, where are you all. You are taking our money now give us support, don't just sit on a cloud and expect us designers to work it all out.

A rant, but needed. I am off to make a coffee and have lunch while photoshop tries to open the next file.

Having the same issue with Illustrator.

Tried with re-installed 2015 version, same issue with files - so looks like 2017 version screwed all my files.

Resetting the workspace? Nope.

Now having to remake all the files... yum.

Thanks CC

For me, I found a very simple answer. I use a custom workspace in Photoshop and apparently it got mangled in the update to CC2017. I changed to one of the default Photoshop workspaces and then restarted Photoshop. Immediately back to normal speed. I then rebuilt my custom workspace and all is well again.

My business is about to fail because I can barely use CC on my brand-new Mac and Adobe won't even take my call. When will someone break up Adobe's mafia-like monopoly?

Same Davidicus. Plenty of power in my system, similar to yours. CC2015.5 worked fine, 2017 brought on a ton of issues. And I can't find one single reply by Adobe to all the countless complaints anywhere other than "then install 2015.5 again". What gives with no acknowledgement?

CC 2017 is slow (this didn't used to happen)--Illustrator and Photoshop in particular.

i'm on a PC with an SSD, 32GB RAM, and 12 x 3.3GHz processors, so i definitely blame the software. starting to wonder if the dinosaur's days are numbered.

tools are slow to select, and clicking a layer in Photoshop doesn't even always work, for instance; in fact, i recently discovered i can still single click to open a layer group (for a long while now i thought it had been changed annoyingly to double-click). it's like it's all been re-written in BASIC or something.

i have tried various preference changes and so on to no avail.

for organizational reasons, my preference is to leave work documents open overnight. they're never fast anymore, but slow down more with each day until it's crippling. closing everything Adobe and starting again gets me back to regular slow.
