Creative Cloud - Device License vs User ID Incompatibility

Hello,

I'm representing a university in the UK who has an issue with using Adobe Creative Cloud on an iMac in a communal space. The iMac has a device license for Adobe Creative Cloud so that any visitors or students without their own Adobe ID can still use Creative Cloud, but we want to allow any students who do have their own Adobe ID to sign in to their account on this iMac and access everything they normally would from their own computer.

Unfortunately this seems to break the device license, so the iMac has currently been configured to restrict users from being able to enter their own Adobe ID.

This means the iMac is not working as we would like it to, and we are only really getting half the benefit.

I found this thread: Creative Cloud installation and licensing issues which seems like a similar issue, and it looks like it has been resolved by alisterblack on a separate call, but the details of the resolution are not included on the thread.

Please could someone recommend some ways to achieve our aim? Allowing users to either sign in with their own Adobe ID, or use the device license if they don't have one, without causing issues with the device license for the next user.

Essentially what will happen if someone signs in with their Adobe ID is that there will be an entitlement check. If it comes back that there is some entitlement for CC apps/services then the Adobe ID will take precedence over the device license. The Adobe ID licenses the individual but the device license licenses the device.

So each time this happens, you would have to restore the device license by rolling out the licensing file again.

So combining these methods is not ideal.

Thanks alisterblack​ - this is useful, but I'm not sure how we would go about restoring the device license after each user - is there a recommended method of rolling out the licensing file, and if so could you please direct me to it? I realise that's not ideal but this is what we would like to achieve.

Hi,

An email address can not block a device license only in the case where the email address is linked to a nominative subscription and therefore it will create a conflict between the two licenses .

Otherwise the email address is only used to sync the cloud files and libraries .

What do you mean by "we want to allow any students who do have their own Adobe ID to sign in to their account on this iMac and access everything they normally would from their own computer"?

If the students have their own licenses ,you don't need to activate the IMAC with your device licenses and if they don't have individual licenses ,what they will access ?

Not all students or visitors have their own license. If they don't, they will just use a generic version of Creative Cloud, not one specifically for them.

The problem description seams to be the following: You have a device license allocated to the computer in an shared space so that people dropping in can do work using the deployed Adobe programs without having a personal subscription.

If, however they have a personal subscription, you would like to allow the student to use that subscription on this computer instead the device subscription.

The only use of this, I can imagine is, that you will have access to your own library elements and your own cloud space. This could be very useful if a student wants to finish or to continue working on a project using that shared computer.

So the issue is not using a device license or a personal license, but being able to access the own private data space in a transparent manner.
