Error 190 on updating Creative Cloud Desktop

I am running Windows 10 Pro 22H2. When I launch the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app, I receive Error 190, stating that my system is incompatible and that the application cannot be updated.

However, according to Adobe's official documentation regarding supported operating systems, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 is listed as a supported version.

Could you please clarify why Error 190 is being triggered on a supported operating system and advise on how to resolve the issue?

Thanks for taking the time to document the issue so thoroughly, @Dar7.

I understand how frustrating it is when a Creative Cloud Desktop update suddenly stops working, especially when your system is running a supported version of Windows and everything was previously working as expected.

Based on what you've shared and additional reports we've seen from other individuals, this does not appear to be a Windows 10 22H2 support issue.

We've received multiple reports of Error 190 occurring after Creative Cloud Desktop attempts to update.

One workaround that has helped some individuals is to repair or completely remove the Creative Cloud desktop application using Adobe's Creative Cloud Uninstaller tool and then install a fresh copy of the application.

Step 1: Repair or uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop

    https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

Step 2: Download and reinstall Creative Cloud Desktop

    https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/download/creative-cloud

A few individuals have reported that performing a repair or clean reinstall of Creative Cloud Desktop allowed the application to install and run successfully again on Windows 10 22H2.

Please let us know whether that resolves the Error 190 update issue on your system, @Dar7. Your feedback will help us better understand the scope of the problem and identify any patterns across affected configurations.

@Jeff_A_Wright I just did that: I completely uninstalled Creative Cloud Desktop and then reinstalled it again, using the download packages you mentioned in your post. The problem remains.

Same problem here. I’m also running Windows 10 Pro 22H and get that Error 190 when I try to update Creative Cloud.

And the latest Photoshop Version 27.10 and Photoshop (Beta) Version 27.12 also have issues with a.o. the Spot Healing Brush Tool and Brush Tool.

Whenever I use any of them I immediately get some crazy lines on the image I’m working on. Not too long ago the same problem was fixed already and now it’s back.

@kglad I already found a solution for the problem, so not necessary to post it in the ps forum anymore

There are thousands of users with the same issue and mine has been like this for several months. Why does it take forever for them to fix it?

Having same issue. Started very recently. Creative Cloud Desktop (not any of the apps) fails to update w/ code 190. Tried the “repair” option prompted by attempted uninstall, didn’t help. Next thing I’ll try is adobe’s cleaner app. Loath to uninstall every app though (CC won’t uninstall without it).

Also facing this issue with Windows 10 Pro 22H2. and I can also verify this started happening after the KB5126256 update. Updated 5 days ago and now no longer able to update. Will try to see if i can roll back and fix the issue

I performed a rollback by removing the latest Windows update, but the Creative Cloud issue remains unresolved. Therefore, I believe the two events are not strictly correlated, although their timing is a notable coincidence.

I too have the same issue with same system set-up, wonder what they’ve added to essentially a launch and update front end that’s taken it beyond some systems without ensuring backward compatability.

there appears to be more than cause of this.  first, did you use compatibility mode to install the cc desktop app?

The problem first occurred yesterday. Creative Cloud Desktop has been installed on my computer for a long time, and all Creative Cloud applications are correctly installed and fully operational. I have an active subscription to the complete Creative Cloud suite.

Yesterday, Creative Cloud Desktop started displaying a notification that an update was available. However, whenever I try to install the update, the process fails with Error 190, indicating a system compatibility issue.

My operating system is Windows 10 Pro 22H2. According to Adobe's official system requirements, this version of Windows is supported.

I have also identified a recent Windows update that was installed immediately before the issue started. On September 9, 2026, Windows Update automatically installed KB5126256 (Extended Security Updates (ESU) Licensing Preparation Package for Windows 10 21H2/22H2).

Creative Cloud Desktop was working correctly before this Windows update. The Error 190 issue appeared immediately afterwards, when Creative Cloud Desktop prompted me to install its latest update.

I cannot confirm that KB5126256 is the cause of the problem, but the timing appears relevant, as I have not made any other significant changes to the system.

    To summarize:

    • Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 22H2

    • Creative Cloud subscription: All Apps

    • Creative Cloud applications: installed and working correctly

    • Creative Cloud Desktop: previously working correctly

    • Windows update KB5126256 installed: September 9, 2026

    • Current issue: Creative Cloud Desktop update fails with Error 190

    • The issue started after the Windows update was installed

Could you please verify whether there is a known compatibility issue between the latest Creative Cloud Desktop update, Windows 10 22H2, and/or KB5126256?

My situatuion is identical yours, the only differences being I subscribe just to Photoshop and KB5126256 was installed on September 11.

Fwiw, the latest version of the desktop app is 6.10.0.252.41. I assume the EXE residing at C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\ is what we’re talking about and the version number it shows on my machine is 6.10.0.253...a version number which doesn’t seem to exist. It was installed on June 12, which would indicated that it’s actually v6.10.0.252.3. Then again, I may be muddying the waters.
