Question

Installation

I am considering buying a Photoshop subscription - I am currently still a CS6 user (an offline user - so not a cloud user!).
Since I don't know if the cloud version is worth the price of the subscription, I would like to leave it open whether I will cancel the contract within 14 days (as it is offered on the Adobe homepage).

Therefore my question: do I have to uninstall the currently installed CS6 before downloading the cloud version or can the programme remain on the computer parallel to the trial version?

==========

Despite it's name, Creative Cloud is not exactly cloud-based.  It's subscription-based software that you can use offline.  However you must connect to the Internet for a few seconds every 30 days or so to confirm your subscription is active.   Likewise, any online services (Adobe fonts, Creative Cloud storage, file sync, Portfolio, Adobe Stock, etc...) will require Internet access.  But the desktop apps download & install on your computer the same as before.

As soon as you install any part of the Cloud, even a trial, it replaces your program management system
-if you plan to keep using a serial number program you should NOT install a Cloud program, not even a trial
-Read Cloud takes over https://community.adobe.com/t5/Get-Started/Get-off-the-cloud/td-p/8075485 for some ideas

Thank you! That was very important advice from you!
I have been using CS6 for at least 6 years or more, - I don't know exactly anymore and above all: unfortunately I don't have any documents anymore (neither access data nor serial numbers etc.) - therefore I don't want to endanger my CS6 in any case - then I have to think about the cloud, - thank you!

>neither access data nor serial numbers

Lost information https://community.adobe.com/t5/Premiere-Pro/Find-serial-number-without-Adpbe-ID/td-p/7769446
- page has links to programs to find an installed serial number in Mac or Windows
- Also https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/find-serial-number.html
- when you find your serial number(s) write them down and put in a desk drawer
- AND/OR put your information in a text file and copy that file to a USB flash drive
If you do find a serial number on that computer it will be 6 groups of 4 numbers
Such as 1234-5678-1234-5678-1234-5678

For serial number programs you may download ONLY if you bought direct from Adobe via download
-Log-in to your Adobe account and click this link https://account.adobe.com/products
--click Order history on the left and then the link to your order that will show on the right
--and finally click the link "Downloads and serial numbers" that will appear
---as always, write the serial number in a text file AND copy that text file and the
---download file(s) to an external drive (or two) to be sure you always have what you need
-if you did not buy direct from Adobe via download you must find your original install
-if you have an Education or volume license you MUST use your original media
--the link for an Education or volume license download is not available at all
-if you bought a disc and don't have a drive you will need to buy an external USB drive
-if you bought and lost a disc Adobe does not provide a replacement via download
-if you bought a download from a 3rd party vendor you will need to contact that vendor

I do not know how far back this process will go, but try this link
-NOTE that you will have to search the site for your specific download
Direct Download Links https://prodesigntools.com/tag/ddl MAY help
-you MUST do what it says in Note: Very Important Instructions
-https://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2015-direct-download-links.html#download-instructions
-the prodesign links go directly to Adobe's file server, so this process will
--only work until Adobe completely removes the old version(s) from the server
.
IF/When you do have a download, be sure to copy it to AT LEAST one external device
-since Adobe does sometimes remove old versions from the server
-a usb flash drive or external hard drive, or write to a DVD
-plus a text file containing your serial number if you have a serial number program

If none of that works, you MAY be able to make a full backup of your boot drive to do a restore in case of a failure

Hardware crashes or virus infections or simple software problems happen, so you should buy AND USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new setup or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work... I have had to do this once when a program install didn't work properly (a different program, not Adobe) and I had to do a restore due to my drive being SO messed up that I couldn't even uninstall the bad program
.
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer requires extra steps due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)
.
The product I bought and use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Note that I get NO benefit if you buy the program, I only use it and like what it does
Version 3 allows restoring to a larger drive and expanding the partition to fit
.
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may not only restore the image over a messed up install, you may restore to a brand new drive in case of a hardware crash, and not have to re-install anything
