Why is Adobe Captivate not part of Creative Cloud?

It seems it would be a great addition to workflows that require screen capture + publishing. As a creative, I often need to integrate screen capture videos in projects such as trailers, web site or application videos, or simply product presentation. Unless explained, I just don't see why it's not part of the Cloud package...  Now I have to consider buying Camtasia or using crappy freewares...

Correct answer Nancy OShea

Referring the community to this link makes sense because that is the only thing you can suggest for us to do.  Knowing the community would have wanted the product included in their subscription in the first place and instead,  making us have to vote does not. To make things easier in the future just know we want all developed apps included in our subscription.  Even if that means some premium tier plan that costs a bit more monthly...  voting is just silly.  Voting still hasn't brought a simple spell checker to Adobe Story. Good thing you guys legitimately happen to be one of the best companies ever or this stuff would really haunt you.

Captivate is convenient  to use for e-Learning projects but it's not the only tool available to us.  As Full Creative Cloud Plan members, we have access to all the products we need to create rich multi-media and e-Learning content providing we have the coding skills and know-how for it.

If Adobe wants to keep Captivate (formerly called e-Learning Suite) as a separate product offering, that's their prerogative.  There may well be contractual / legal reasons for this that we as product users know nothing about.   In short, it's not our decision to make.

Finally, I think this thread from 2012 has run its course.  I am locking it from further posts.  If someone has  compelling reasons for unlocking it, please private message me.

Happy 2018!

Because I'm already paying for Cloud. Adobe will lose my business on Captivate. I refuse to pay them more. If I have to pay more I'll buy other software. :/

So, just another option for folks who really only need screen capture - if you're using Windows 10 there's an integrated screen capture tool.  Just hit [Windows key]+G and it'll bring it up.  It's intended for capturing gameplay videos, but will work within any application.  I've been using it to screen capture an online tool for tutorials.  When you pull it up, you need to click the button that says "this is a game".  Once you do, the screen cap will only capture what's in that app.  Meaning, it doesn't capture your whole screen, just that app.  In my case, it captured just what was showing in Chrome.  I used another free app called "sizer" to set the window to exactly 1920x1080 and BOOM, my screen cap video is sized to fit my 1080p sequence in premiere pro perfectly.

Sorry to all the mac folks who get left out of this solution, but you've got other cool features to make up for it, I suppose.

Not necessary to apologize to us Mac folk...we have a built in screen capture as well (for those Mac users that don't know, just open Quicktime Player and CMD-CTRL-N to start a screen capture.  You can choose to capture your whole screen or draw a box to capture only part of it.)

Thanks, I didn't know this trick, but for me the issue is, that this software is a learning aid that a fair few job opportunities request, Captivate is supposed to be an all in solution for creating learning material, surely from a business sense it makes sound financial sense for Adobe to add this to CC ASAP, as they could simply add a watermark saying "Made with Adobe Capture and Creative Cloud" unless you pay an extra fee, for some the watermark would be no problem, for big corporates they would want it removed, so it wouldn't hurt their business in any way I can see, it would just create good will! If anyone at Adobe likes this, go ahead use it, I would just like to see this added to CC, as I think it would create the ultimate creative package that way!

Icecream Screen Recorder has a free screen capture tool.  The pro version is sold on Amazon and on their website for a $30 - one time fee.    Research them to see of you like them.  Their website is  icecreamapps.com/Screen-Recorder/

VERY disappointing that ADOBE STAFF are AVOIDING responding to consumers/customers - it is worrying when they treat customers like this.

For the record CAPTIVATE must be part of Creative Cloud

I, too, would like to see Captivate as part of Creative Cloud. It seems a little absurd that it isn't.

Personally, I think it stinks that Adobe have excluded this, it's pure corporate greed is all, well stuff them, I paid TechSmith for Camtasia 3 I'd rather do that than pay Adobe any more money!

It definitely should be included

WOW! This thread was started in 2012 and Captivate is still not a part of Creative Cloud? Thinking that's not going to happen then.

When I try to access the link it says I'm not authorized.  I would like it to be a part of Creative Cloud as well, but mostly so I can create client tutorials by recording my screen.

Yes Adobe please add Captivate to the Creative Cloud!

I vote +1 to add Captivate to CC! My cat votes +1 to add Captivate to CC as well... though he's specified that he wishes such not cause delays in including an aquarium and squirrel screensavers in CC... the latter being essential to his creative process.

I will add the following in case it helps informed smart product decisions... I don't need super fancy desktop capture software as I currently rarely do computer-related demo videos, though I expect over time I will need this ability occasionally. It is therefore nowhere near worth $100s of dollars if not much less.

Sort of a case in point, I found a solution for my needs by using a free built-in feature of the software that comes with my NVIDIA's drivers, the NVIDIA GeForce Experience "record" feature, which produces a nice recording of the desktop. I record with that free option, sometimes using a mouse pointer or text selection as a way to annotate while recording, and/or I simply record and use Premiere titles after to annotate and whatnot.

That NVIDIA record option was a free solution for me that seems as though it will always be available for me so long as I have a GeForce adapter. This means there's little chance I as a user with my particular needs, and given this free/safe/reasonable option, will pay anything for such recording software (beyond a bundled CC fee that I already pay).

So when I say I am +1 for Captivate, I'm just saying I'm 1+ for a convenient/secure Adobe desktop capture option as part of CC... I don't know Captivate or its features, apparently advanced enough to warrant a high price tag. I don't need that or corporate training recording software... I would never pay for such unless I had some other need I don't currently have, and don't expect to personally have. So my +1 is that I need screen capture from time to time, and I want to use Premiere as my finalizing software to edit/complete software demos, so rudimentary abilities in this regard as part of CC seem natural. Whether or not that's Captivate is unclear as I don't know that software beyond having a feeling it's got much more than what I need.

Thanks for listening!
