Are there any sanfu's to keep in mind when using a 3rd-party CMS, like Subversion (or something similar), with FrameMaker 2017?

We are looking into going with a 3rd-party CMS, like Subversion, and wondered if anyone has ever run into any snafu's using that or some other similar CMS with FrameMaker? We looked into the currently-supported CMS's with Adobe, GIT and SharePoint, and neither are good for our team, which is why we've researched other options. I was just looking for some input if there were things to keep in mind.
