How to convert a gradient to dotted pattern?

Good Morning,

I am looking for a way to display a bunch of gradients from a jpeg in a halftonish way. But where in halftone increasing darkness is portayed by increasing dot-size I need it to be done by decreasing spacing whereas all single dots are of the same size. What matters is, that I end up whith black and white spaces and no between since i want to screenprint the outcome. I tried to visualise this below.
