Hi,

I am using Illustrator on a new Macbook Pro with M1 apple silicon. While using the software it often starts to randomly freeze and after a few minutes everything works again. Sometimes the whole mac is frozen for several minutes and Illustrator crashes completely. Not seeing anyone eelse reproting the problem und no issue desiriped my adobe on the M1 side i was wondering what could be rhe reason for this problem. Thank you!

I am having the same issue with Illustrator and Photoshop, it is constantly crashing and freezing. Contacted Apple and Adobe a few times.

I have basically been advised that the issue is of course due to the M1 chip and compatibilty and told Adobe are working on their software and until then nothing can be done!

Have you tried the workarounds described in this thread?

Using Photoshop and Illustrator is impossible on the Macbook M1! I obviously new there would be issues running the software but I assumed Rosetta would make it bareable!

It is completely unusable, constant crashes and restarts! Will the constant force quits and reboots damage the Macbook?

Hi,

Sound very familiar. I hope Adobe will come out with a native ILL app soon because I've had about 10 freez ups today on my MB Pro M1... Even had to restart it twice:-(.

Is it an M1 machine?

In that case please search for the threads about that issue.

We think it has something to do with the GPU performance. This has helped a couple of us. Try it and see if it helps.

Under Illustrator Preferences
Click "Performance"

Uncheck "GPU Performance"
Set "Undo Counts" to 50   (not sure if undo counts has anything to do with it, but reduced it just in case)
Uncheck "Real-Time Drawing and Editing"

Since doing this, I have not experienced any system instability or crashing. Before, I was restarting my computer 10+ times a day to try to get some work done with Illustrator on the new Macbook M1.

December 11, 2020.   I just created my first design in Illustrator today on my new Macbook Air M1 however it was plagued by 5-10 min at a time of the notorious color wheel stuck spinning.  When can we expect an update to make Illustrator and all Adobe suite compatible with M1 Mac? I may have to return this laptop and just continue on my 2017 macbook.  Thank you.

I'm not sure if I've found a solution, but my system was stable yesterday after tinkering with the performance settings in Illustrator. I was mainly saving out logo files yesterday, so not super heavy Illustrator work. I would love if another person with an M1 mac using Illustrator could also test this and see if they see less crashing.

Click "Performance"

Uncheck "GPU Performance"

Still smooth sailing this morning, and I'm doing heavier design work. No system crashes yet.

Hi,

I tested your performance solution on my mac M1 and it is working fine now.

Thank you!

The same problem here, my solution was to download and install an older version and that runs pretty well. You should be able to find the older version in the install options CC will give you when you choose to install Illustrator. Good luck.

You're using Illustrator version 24 on an M1 Mac without experiencing the problems reported here with version 25?

Can anyone else reading this please give this a go and confirm?

Having the same issue, but it only happens while I'm using Illustrator or InDesign, but it runs smoothly other Adobe apps like Premiere, Photoshop or AfterEffects. I'm a graphic design student and I have to use Illustrator to make all my projects so please solve this crashing issues.

In this thread, some people report success turning off iCloud and/or GPU Performance. Give those a try and please report back.

My iCloud Drive has been unchecked and I've still had Illustrator issues. I will turn off the GPU Performance and see if that works. I'll be heavily using Illustrator today.
