My brush width options are greyed out

My brush width options are greyed out. Adobe Illustrator 23.1.1 on High Sierra.

I tried it with older versions and it was the same.

I reset the preferences and it was the same.

I attached the snapshot of the greyed out width menu items.

I appreciate your help.

    Do you have a Wacom?

    Hi there,

    The problem was that the instructor (online course) showed the features. He has Wacom and students didn't. When I brought up the greyed out menu to him, he didn't relate my concern with the fact that mouse doesn't trigger those features to be on. He just replied he will look into it. I thought it was to do with my installation / setup.

    Later I managed to have a chat session with Adobe tech support and they confirmed those features are only on when Ai recognizes Wacom.

    Are you drawing with a tablet for which those settings are relevant, or are you using a mouse, for which they don't apply?
