The dimensions of this page are out off allowed range. What can I do?

What I should do when illustrator says: "The dimensions of this page are out off allowed range" at the moment to save file? I'm using illustrator CS4 and creating panel with 180 cm x 600 cm but I can't save to PDF, JPG or PNG, just Ai

What is the right dimension range to that software version (CS4)?

Thank you!

Best Regards,

Kelly Oliveira - From São Paulo - Brazil

This is too large. The biggest PDF size allowed in Acrobat is 504 cm. Make the design smaller. Everyone making large designs, must work to scale.

That Illustrator's native format is PDF, and the team would want it to work in Acrobat.

Adobe did introduce a clever feature called "Page scaling" to PDF some years ago. But it was so badly done nobody uses it. In theory it could be used to make much larger page sizes automatically.

There isn't a specific limit is Postscript; a given implementation is simply limited in media size to its hardware. Acrobat 3 was limited to 45 inches...

what do you think is holding up increasing illustrator's maximum, in that case?

No, do not divide the file! Scale the file, this is what every large size designer must do.

I appreciate all answers. Now I know that I'm not doing something wrong, but I have to do it differently, dividing the file in two, maybe ... And put them together at the install time.

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Kelly,

You can surely put a feature request here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form

However as explained above by experts, you can use scale to print to get a bigger print.

    Om

No, I don't think so. But you may take a different view. Is it really so hard to design to scale? Clearly everyone who has a large format printer is used to this and can print to scale.

(Or 200" x 200" for those who measure in inches.)

    Good grief!

Does anyone else think that if we can go from 256 glyphs to 65,000 glyphs in a font, that maybe it's time to increase some of these maximum sizes in Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat?

that's a curious thing. i thought since it was a postscript thing, the max size would be the same in AI, ID and PDF.

600 cm is larger than illustrator supports. your max dimension is 577.95 cm

But, I put exactly that dimension. Otherwise, I couldn't not open the new document and because of it, I had a bad surprise in the moment to save ...
