Have you assigned the proper language in the paragraph styles? Are you seeing the problem in InDesign or Word? Did you properly place the Word document into InDesign?

That's like calling a hammer a better tool than a screwdriver. It's absolute nonsense to compare the two.
What you need is some professional training and the desire to learn. Otherwise, stick with Word.

When Adobe has found bugs in the past they've owned up to them even if they take forever to fix. If I were you, I'd be hammering Typeface as well but for me, no font manager is worth the grief anymore. I was a huge Suitcase fan but see very little need for anything anymore.

You're really going to need to do that in InDesign. InCopy is not for layout.

Check the text frame properties. Is ignore text wrap selected?
And while unlikely, was this file converted from a Quark file? If so, check your Composition preferences to see if Text Wrap Only Affects Text Beneath is enabled.

Well, then...open the one that works in Acrobat and examine the elements there to see how it was done. It's entirely possible that what you want to do cannot be done using InDesign alone.

If you have a problem, there are a lot of folks here happy to help if you start a new discussion with full details.
If you just decided to hijack a 3-year old discussion to rant, I hope you feel better but I'm locking this one as it was asked and answered. Good luck.

You are fighting a losing battle here. Even if, by some chance, you get this working in Acrobat, the chances of it working in most 3rd party readers or browsers is nearly zero.

I'm not sure what you mean, David. You can't, AFAIK, combine the placed Word file into InCopy. Of course, I'm willing to stand corrected, but I'm sticking with my last response. It's the workflow here that needs fixing.

Open the paragraph or character styles panel and then from the panel menu choose load all text styles. Navigate to the INDD file and click okay.

You could export the stories to InCopy and add them to an assignment. After that, under the view menu, choose extras>assigned frames.
This assumes you're not mixing placed content with native content. There are other ideas but they're so convoluted I won't even suggest them.
In short, there's no built in function for what you want and even editing in Word and updating in InDesign is an absolute disaster waiting to happen. What I would expect any expert will tell you is that all editing should have been done in Word BEFORE being placed in InDesign. As cold and snarky as this is going to sound, the only real problem I see here is your workflow.
I'd respectfully suggest you give up trying to have a matching Word/InDesign file. Place the text in InDesign without a link, update/edit to your heart's content and then when you're done, if you really need it, export to RTF. There's a script that will export all stories.
Good luck.

As I see it, for true editorial workflows, InCopy exists and works quite well right out of the box for small workgroups. The OP has been given a solution for two-way Word workflows but doesn't want to pay for it.
Seems to me that everything's been covered here.

Well, as I said, it's the only way with Word files. Beyond that, you can try opening your Word files in InCopy, save as ICML and placing those. That will create a link and lock the files from accidental editing. Any editing you do in InDesign will automatically apply to the ICML.
If you are working with others, they'll need a subscription but it's only $5/month (on an annual basis) and they'll be able to see the InDesign layout as they work on it.

Because they are a completely different format and the fact that they both support layers doesn't change that. PNGs are much smaller and so are JPGs. In this day an age of cheap storage, file size is not something I would put at the top of the list.
As with your barcode request, the fact that "it's technically feasible" puts it in the same category as just about every single feature that's been requested for the last 25 years.
Again, not trying to throw cold water on your needs but you're coming off as someone who thinks all they need to do is ask for new features and they're going to be rolled out. That's not how it works so if you need layer visibility you're going to have to keep using PSDs.

Hi everyone, I’m preparing an InDesign 2025 project for professional printing and want to make sure I’m packaging everything correctly, especially the fonts.
By @chrissmith221
InDesign will not package CJK fonts nor will it package fonts synched through the Adobe Fonts service. Even those fonts it will package usually require the recipient to have a licence.
As already mentioned, do not send a live file; send a PDF. If the printer won't take it, be prepared for all kinds of problems or find a new printer.

You can't do anything else. I hate to throw cold water on it but while I get your need, it's a niche and nothing more especially since a third-party plugin exists.

Well, since you decided to pop in here EIGHT YEARS later, my assumption is that anyone using professional level tools should know how to install a font. It was true then and it's true now.
And since this was asked and answered in 2017, I'm going to lock it. If you're having issues with InDesign please start a new discussion with full details.

It may be time to start shopping for a new computer. Yours is now a decade old and contrary to popular belief, they don't last forever. You have a bare minimum RAM and a processor that was mid-range ten years ago.
But again, if you don't tell us the problem, we can't even start to help.

I realize English isn't your first language (but it's way better than my anything else) but yeah, I thought you were trying to get them to load Acrobat. But this is still a stretch for most users that know nothing about anything except default settings.

JR, I'm all for using the right tools but if you think anyone is going to install a PDF reader on a phone just for this, I have a bridge for sale that you might be interested in. I'm sorry, but most people aren't even going to see the recommendation and those that do will just skip the whole thing.
Me? I'd create a web page for it. Way easier to make things responsive.

As already pointed out, using ID on a touch interface is horribly unproductive. I've tried it on Windows touch devices and it's while it demoed quite nicely at MAX more than a decade ago it's not at all something I would want to see Adobe put its limited resources into.
