Illustrator for ipad crashing every time I use the vector tool

I am using the ai app on my ipad (6th generation). AI is up to date. I am having issues when I attempt to use the vector tool with the file that I upload (jpeg, pdf, png) doesn't matter which.

I have tried uploading from camera roll and files. I have made a new board and uploaded a file directly into ai to work on. Files upload fine. Once I use the vector tool, it automatically detects "sketch" for my graphic (2 colors). Once I click "logo" the app crashes at about the halfway loading line point every single time. I will add that when I use import and open most files are greyed out but I can then use "place" once I open a board and can then use most of the files that were greyed out before. Not sure if there is a connection there.

I thought maybe it was the file but then I uploaded a separate png file and vectorized and then it completely disappeared. So I am thinking there is possibly a bug with the vector tool?

Correct answer Laura Coyle.

The weird thing is the files were greyed out when I went to "import and open" but they were there when I used Place.

Generally, images would be grayed out when you use Import and open, so accessing them via the Place menu seems right.
But, I see in the video that the pink ghost becomes black and white, even when you switch from then sketch tracing preset (which traces in black and white) to logo, color. I made my own test to see what happens on my end from a similar image, and when I switch to logo, color, I get color. Plus, we have similar defaults. So I don't understand why the ghost is black and white when you are tracing in color and the slider is up at 8 colors. That is strange, seems buggy.

Also in the beginning of the video, you open a file with "2nd grade" in handwriting and that looks like it just disappears - and the artboard size is different. So I see what you mean. You have already checked your system requirements, you have restarted the app and the iPad. Have you uninstalled Illustrator and reinstalled it? That, and maybe even doing the same with the Creative Cloud app could fix it. If not, you probably need to contact adobe support and speak to someone there. I'm sorry this is happening! I know how frustrating it is.

Also, here is another help thread - it's old but there are some suggestions on how to get the crash log from Srishti Bali: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-on-the-ipad-discussions/illustrator-for-ipad-keeps-crashing/td-p/11589618

I'm sorry you are having this trouble! I tried to reproduce it and couldn't. When Illustrator on the iPad gets buggy, I always shut it down fully and also restart the iPad to make sure I've cleared problems out. Let us know if you tried that too.

Vectorize detects and sets the initial preset based on the image, so something that looks like a sketch will be traced with the sketch preset, something like a normal photo could get the painting preset, etc. If yours is always coming up with sketch, no matter the image, that sounds off. Also, the PNG completely disappearing, that sounds buggy. As for the images that were greyed out in your files, usually, that's a file type that's not compatible with Place.

Last thing, make sure you start from a fresh document, don't use one that already has a bunch of images or artboards in it, so it's not overloading Illustrator. I hope something here helps! Let us know.

Yes, I have tried a soft and hard reset on the ipad. The weird thing is the files were greyed out when I went to "import and open" but they were there when I used Place. I have been using fresh documents as well to rule that out as an issue.

I have uploaded a video of how buggy it is acting. This video shows me uploading a jpg. In the video, the image disappears completely. Other times AI just crashes around the time the image disappears (if I get that far). Isn't there a way I can find and upload some type of backlog info? How do I get more support through Adobe? I am unable to use Adobe for my needs right now as it's constantly buggy or takes about a minute sometimes for every click I make with the vector tool.

And apparently, I cut the most last bit of the video off but I went to click Sketch again and went back to Logo and at that point, the image just disappears. As you can see it is acting buggy even before that happens.
