Question

The Illustrator app keeps crashing on iPadOS 26.4.2.

The Illustrator app keeps crashing when trying open or create a new project. Was working before the iPadOS 26.4 update. And I even updated to iPadOS 26.4.2 version to no avail. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache and shut it all down. I have a 9th generation ipad. What is the resolution to this issue?

iPad 9th Gen, iOS updated, ilustrador crashes instantly on internet connection when opening or creating ANY File. Fredy install and caché clearing didn’t work

I had the same problem. I had been using the Illustrator app since last December without any issues, but starting in April, it began crashing constantly.

I tried everything I could think of to fix it, and I contacted Adobe Support today. This was their response:

"Illustrator on iPad requires 4 GB of RAM as a minimum hardware requirement, while the iPad 9th generation only has 3 GB of RAM."

From what I understood, there is no fix planned for this issue. My only options are to buy a newer iPad that meets the hardware requirements or stop using Illustrator on my current device.

My device is an iPad (9th generation), model MK2K3NF/A.

I understand that Illustrator on iPad now requires at least 4 GB of RAM, while my iPad has only 3 GB. However, my device is still listed as compatible on the App Store, and I was able to use Illustrator without any issues for several months before the app started crashing after later updates.

Could you please clarify why the app is still advertised as compatible if it no longer runs reliably on this device? If the current version requires hardware that the iPad 9th generation does not meet, shouldn't it be marked as unsupported or unavailable for this model?

I renewed my subscription hoping the issue had been fixed, but unfortunately the app is still unusable because it crashes constantly.

I would appreciate any clarification or solution you can provide.

    Hi agathe
I recieved the following reply from

Stating Adobe is working to resolve the situation.
Like you I have the same specs and subscription.
The App starting crashing back in June 2026.
I went to the Apple Store and Service three times. The iPad is working fine with all the other apps. The only app we have an issue with is the Illustrator app.

Anyone having any luck working with the Illustrator App not on an Apple Device?
    Need a solution soon.

I am looking into Affinity Designer App as an alternate to AI until they can resolve the situation.
I am seeking a non-apple device to see if I can down load and use the app as well.
I contacted Adobe but only got a Bot Reply - Paying for a subscription and not receiving service is frustrating. Everything was fine only a few weeks ago.

They should develop a script to personally reply to users noting they are aware of the situation and they are working on it.😐

The Illustrator App on the iPad was working fine back in June 2026. Now the app just crashes.
Very frustrating. We all deserve a response from Adobe.
Has anyone had any success with the App on a Non-Apple device?
Working on a deadline need an alternative.
Note: I had Apple Store and Service review the iPad everything checks out fine.

same here, apple said my ipad is fine & is compatible with the software, over a month without use of Illustrator, holding off on projects because of this, adobe needs to find a fix

I have exactly the same issue. Illustrator keeps crashing constantly, making it impossible to work. Everything was working perfectly before the latest iPadOS update. I am paying for a subscription, but the app is currently unusable. Is Adobe working on a fix? Is there any estimated release date?😠

Same here. I’m a professional user, and it’s been over a month and a half now that Illustrator on iPad is completely unusable for me due to these constant crashes. The lack of a timely solution is critical, as many of us are losing income and work progress daily. It's clearly a software issue that needs to be fixed immediately, not a hardware problem. We need an ETA, not just standard 'blame Apple/Adobe' responses.

I am having the same problem, Adobe said the problem is with Apple & Apple says the problem is with Adobe, all my other Adobe apps are working, only Illustrator continues to crash, I have spoken with support who offers no solution, I updated today to OS 26.5.2 reinstalled Illustrator & its still crashing, we need a solution!!!!

Which iPad model do you have? I have an iPad Air 3 and the workaround doesn't work for me either.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for staying with us on this. We're aware of the recent surge in reports about Illustrator crashing on iPads, particularly on the 9th generation model, and we're actively working with the product team to resolve it.

In the meantime, we've also noted that several users have reported the app working when switching to Airplane Mode - worth trying as a temporary workaround while we work on the fix.

The issue has already been escalated to the product team on an urgent basis, and I'll update this thread as soon as we have more information. Thanks for sharing the crash logs and for your patience - both are directly helping the team narrow down the cause.

Thank you, Anubhav. I really hope your team will find a solution that includes older iPad models as well, because we are completely locked out of our workflow.

Unfortunately, the Airplane Mode workaround does not work for me. Even in offline mode, Illustrator on my iPad still crashes and doesn't allow me to save anything at all. I am eagerly waiting for a real fix.
