Question

The Illustrator app keeps crashing on iPadOS 26.4.2.

The Illustrator app keeps crashing when trying open or create a new project. Was working before the iPadOS 26.4 update. And I even updated to iPadOS 26.4.2 version to no avail. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache and shut it all down. I have a 9th generation ipad. What is the resolution to this issue?

23 days ago, I posted about the Illustrator app crashing. And to be clear it’s NOT the iPad Software.
We are professionals paying for a service that is not being provided. This is extremely frustrating.
Anyone out there having any success with the Illustrator App working on a PC Tablet or platform.

The following info is from my recent in inquiry via AI.

Confirmed Reports of Illustrator Crashing on iPad

Across Adobe’s Support Community and Illustrator’s official bug tracker, users have reported:

    1. App freezing immediately on launch

A user with an iPad Air 13" (M3) reported that Illustrator freezes every time the app opens, even after reinstalling and updating. Adobe staff requested crash logs and acknowledged the issue.

    2. Crashing when opening or creating new files

Multiple users on iPadOS 26.4.2 and older versions reported that Illustrator crashes as soon as they try to open or start a project. This includes 9th‑generation and 8th‑generation iPads.

    3. Crashing during basic operations (layers, shapes, Apple Pencil)

The official Illustrator (iPad) bug board shows high‑vote reports of:

    • Freezing when selecting multiple layers

    • Crashing after creating a few shapes

    • Crashing when using the Apple Pencil with the Pen Tool Adobe confirmed some of these issues and released fixes in version 3.0.6, though some users still report problems.

    4. Crashes after closing and reopening the app

Users with older iPad Pro models (e.g., 12.9" 2nd gen) reported that Illustrator works once, then crashes every time they reopen it until they reinstall.

    What These Reports Suggest

Based on the patterns across multiple posts:

    • Newer iPads (M3/M4/M5) tend to experience fewer crashes, but issues still occur.

    • Older iPads (8th/9th gen, older Pros) show significantly more instability.

    • iPadOS updates sometimes break Illustrator temporarily, especially major point releases.

    • Apple Pencil interactions have been a recurring crash trigger in past versions.

    • Adobe actively requests crash logs, which indicates ongoing investigation and patching.

    The Good News

Most crash issues get resolved in subsequent updates, and Illustrator on iPad is still considered far more stable than Illustrator on Windows tablets — but yes, crashes do happen, and they’re documented.

Having this SAME issue with illustrator on the iPad. I can’t open any files or do anything without the software crashing. I have an iPad Air with a terabyte of space, what gives Adobe?

For me, whenever I plug my iPad (9th Gen) into the charger, after a few moments it causes Adobe Fresco to crash or record 1000+ brush strokes within one stroke of the pen...and yes, these new updates are draining my battery with ease...leaving me not enough time to do projects and I can’t plug it in cause it overheats and crashes the app!

Having the same problems as any of you described. As of april/May 2026 app keeps crashing on opening an old file or creating a new folder. I'm depending on this program, working on a PC is fine, but I cannot bring that to my customers. Thank you in advance for a (quick) solution of this problem.

iPad 9th Gen, iOS updated, ilustrador crashes instantly on internet connection when opening or creating ANY File. Fredy install and caché clearing didn’t work

I had the same problem. I had been using the Illustrator app since last December without any issues, but starting in April, it began crashing constantly.

I tried everything I could think of to fix it, and I contacted Adobe Support today. This was their response:

"Illustrator on iPad requires 4 GB of RAM as a minimum hardware requirement, while the iPad 9th generation only has 3 GB of RAM."

From what I understood, there is no fix planned for this issue. My only options are to buy a newer iPad that meets the hardware requirements or stop using Illustrator on my current device.

My device is an iPad (9th generation), model MK2K3NF/A.

I understand that Illustrator on iPad now requires at least 4 GB of RAM, while my iPad has only 3 GB. However, my device is still listed as compatible on the App Store, and I was able to use Illustrator without any issues for several months before the app started crashing after later updates.

Could you please clarify why the app is still advertised as compatible if it no longer runs reliably on this device? If the current version requires hardware that the iPad 9th generation does not meet, shouldn't it be marked as unsupported or unavailable for this model?

I renewed my subscription hoping the issue had been fixed, but unfortunately the app is still unusable because it crashes constantly.

I would appreciate any clarification or solution you can provide.

    Hi agathe
I recieved the following reply from

Stating Adobe is working to resolve the situation.
Like you I have the same specs and subscription.
The App starting crashing back in June 2026.
I went to the Apple Store and Service three times. The iPad is working fine with all the other apps. The only app we have an issue with is the Illustrator app.

Anyone having any luck working with the Illustrator App not on an Apple Device?
    Need a solution soon.

I am looking into Affinity Designer App as an alternate to AI until they can resolve the situation.
I am seeking a non-apple device to see if I can down load and use the app as well.
I contacted Adobe but only got a Bot Reply - Paying for a subscription and not receiving service is frustrating. Everything was fine only a few weeks ago.

They should develop a script to personally reply to users noting they are aware of the situation and they are working on it.😐

The Illustrator App on the iPad was working fine back in June 2026. Now the app just crashes.
Very frustrating. We all deserve a response from Adobe.
Has anyone had any success with the App on a Non-Apple device?
Working on a deadline need an alternative.
Note: I had Apple Store and Service review the iPad everything checks out fine.

same here, apple said my ipad is fine & is compatible with the software, over a month without use of Illustrator, holding off on projects because of this, adobe needs to find a fix

I have exactly the same issue. Illustrator keeps crashing constantly, making it impossible to work. Everything was working perfectly before the latest iPadOS update. I am paying for a subscription, but the app is currently unusable. Is Adobe working on a fix? Is there any estimated release date?😠

Same here. I’m a professional user, and it’s been over a month and a half now that Illustrator on iPad is completely unusable for me due to these constant crashes. The lack of a timely solution is critical, as many of us are losing income and work progress daily. It's clearly a software issue that needs to be fixed immediately, not a hardware problem. We need an ETA, not just standard 'blame Apple/Adobe' responses.
