Question

Activated fonts not appearing in InDesign 18.1 (2023)

I am having font issues where activated fonts are not active. There was a similar issue with InDesign v17 (2022).  https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/unable-to-access-installed-fonts-in-indesign/m-p/12932564#M476518

I tried everything from reinstalling; clearing preferences and manually installing fonts into the Adobe fonts folder.  The only solution is to downgrade back to v17.

Is there another workaround for v18?

Hi Adobe team,

Is there any update on this issue?  It looks like it is a regular issue for other users?  Do I need to reach out to my IT team to file a formal bug report?

Thank you.

We are also having that problem with multiple fonts.
For example with Googles "Roboto". It suddenly stopped working.

Windows 10 newest Version, Indesign 18.1
In InDesign 17 it was working fine.

Hi @AugT,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the info. Would you mind telling us the name of the fonts so that we can check on our end?

Please share the details of your operating system.

We will try our best to help.

Thanks,

Harshika

I want to clear up what kind of fonts you have "activated". Are these Adobe Fonts which are activated from the Font menu in InDesign (or turned on in fonts.adobe.com)?

Or are these fonts which are stored on your computer? (You mention "manually installing fonts into the Adobe fonts folder" but you cannot do that with Adobe fonts.) If so, what kind of fonts are these (OpenType, TrueType, or PostScript Type 1?

Are you using any kind of font manager to control your fonts?

The fonts are currently being managed via Font Book - OpenType fonts. These fonts are from legacy Adobe Font Folio.

Thanks for sharing the info. Are the fonts activated in FontBook?

Thanks,

Harshika

On Windows - copying fonts into system folder should work - unless you have more than one version installed - and the one InDesign is trying to use is corrupted somehow ?

Hi Robert - I am running a MAC with 17.2.1 and 18.1 installed.   V17 is the only working version at this time.  v18 has the font issue.

I'm sorry but I have no idea how fonts work on a Mac 😞

Maybe try to search for the specified font's file name on your drive - if there are duplicates?
