It’s Adobe MAX time and here you have InDesign 15.0!

The latest release of Adobe InDesign includes several new features and enhancements like:

  • SVG import - One of the most requested features. SVG and SVGZ formats can now be imported directly into InDesign. These formats were not recognized by InDesign earlier and corresponding PNG renditions were used.

Check this link for more details.

You can discuss about this feature here.

  • Variable fonts - Variable Fonts are highly flexible and customizable typefaces. InDesign now supports Variable Font. They are the equivalent of multiple individual fonts compactly packaged within a single font file.

Check this link for more details.

You can discuss about this feature here

  • Column Rules Adding column rules in your text frame enhances the readability. We’ve added this feature in the new InDesign wherein you can add separator lines (column rules) between text columns to prominently differentiate between individual columns.

Check this link for more details.

You can discuss about this feature here.

  • Find similar images - The new InDesign lets you find images that are similar to the assets within your document. You can access similar assets from the CC Libraries panel as well as from the canvas.

Check this link for more details.

You can discuss about this feature here.

  • Flash format removal - With Flash Player reaching end-of-life at the end 2020, we encourage content creators to migrate any existing Flash content to new open formats, such as HTML5, WebGL, and WebAssembly.

Check this link for more details.

  • Southeast Asian language support - The Adobe World-Ready Paragraph composer in InDesign now provides support for Indic, Middle Eastern, and Southeast Asian languages. You can create documents using text from these languages.

Check this link for more details:

If you have any feedback or want to discuss about this, click here.

  • Performance and stability - Here’s a list of improvements we made in the latest version.

thanks for nothing

project i've been 'building' for over a month now (for a client) got "toasted" by a forced upgrade to 15  (from 14.)

usually, y'all ASK before doing that kind of thing- or, I wait to upgrade when the latent BUGS get worked out.

not this morning--- the open 14 file (20+ pages) got hung, then ADOBE automatically kills 14, loads in 15, and my WORK is gone forever!

y'all should know better than do this kind of thing.

you want me to be 'kind & respectful'?

why weren't you??

*it's rhetorical, I don't care to hear back--- I've got DO OVER to deal with!!

I won't debate the issues you're having but that's why this isn't in any way a forced upgrade. Nobody installed a new version of InDesign without your permission.

@BobLevine, InDesign 2020 did automatically install itself on one of our Windows workstations. Never has happened before and not sure why it did because nothing in our shop is allowed to automatically update...not any operating system or software program. Still looking for why this happened on just one workstation.

On the other hand, when opening an INDD file and 2020 is launched, it's clear that this is a new version of InDesign: new splash screen, new opening screen, new interface. We immediately exit without saving the file and re-open it in 2019.

Our shop policy is to never open an in-process project in a new version of software. We keep all projects on the same version from start to finish.

@Loser77 and others, be careful when switching to new versions. No matter how thorougly Adobe (or any other software company) beta tests before a release, there are always things that go wrong during the first few weeks. It's not possible to test for all possible situations.

Also, something can change from version to version. Example from another post: InDesign 2020 changes how it tags lists for accessible PDFs. This was a change for the better but the poster's document wouldn't export to what she expected. She made the adjustment for this in her layout and the problem was solved.

Those micro-changes in software are always going to happen.

So plan for it.

  • Don't upgrade until you're ready to.
  • If the upgrade is made, be careful about opening existing documents with it because tools can -- and will -- change.
  • CYA. Keep a version of the file in the older software, either as an 2019 INDD file or an IDML, so you can drop back and recover gracefully if needed.
  • Don't switch to a new version of software in mid-project, unless you have a damn good reason for it, like a new feature you need for your design.
  • Regardless of what version you're using or upgrading to, always make a backup of your INDD file when you close up for the day. Give it an interation number. Not only does this 1 minute task help to keep your files from becoming unstable (corrupted), but you also have a fall-back if you need to recover.

Way to go Adobe! Any document I have previously created now opens in 'Legal' page size and can't find any images on CC hosting.

Who do I bill for all the extra time it's going to take to sort this out?

How about a non-archaic way of creating charts using InDesign?  Would be amazing to actually use live data and be able to create visualy appealing charts... having to break apart Illustrator files is a ridiculous.  Then there's the third-party fonts & plugins that have been recommended here that are A) expensive and B) don't work beyond a very limited use.

Please for the sake of being able to do something better an MS product, address the charts....

It keeps freezing when I work with text.

I tried to convert my document back to 14, but the document was useless.

Many hours set back for me 😞

Even many voices can't kick Adobe to do it things that need it. All the new features now is a toys. Sad but true.

Rhetorical questions.

Some features couldn't be finished in time (example: there are a lot of use cases for breaking tables) for the cut for MAX 2019 but will be provided in an update to InDesign 2020.

Dear Adobe,

good work and some helpful new features. Keep adding such new features. But PLEASE!! start implementing the same UI scaling feature as in Illustrator or Photoshop. For me and 113 other users it will be a REAL improvement in the user experience. (see: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/32003341-indesign-2018-user-interface-still-too-small).

Thank you in advance for the realization of the most helpful feature.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hey cool stuff Adobe, can I get a better gradient tool or consistency between Illustrator and InDesign? It would also be awesome if my keyboard shortcuts didn't stop working in the middle of a work session. Oh and while you're at it, could you finally make the print booklet feature into a usable experience? Good stuff guys. Keep it up.
