Features like that were never truly supported. It was done using Flash in the past but those days ended many years ago.

Unfortunately, Multi-State Objects (MSOs) are not reliably supported in Interactive PDFs, as the PDF format itself does not fully support dynamic switching of object states and advanced interactivity. I understand this functionality is important for your workflow, and I apologize for the current limitation.

That’s exactly the case. Interactivity in PDF is unreliable and is not worth spending time on. And even if you manage to make it work in Acrobat, there’s no guarantee it’ll work in countless third-party PDF viewers and browsers.
