Blank control panel after update?

Any buddy else having an issue with the control panel going blank after the 2019 update?

I've uninstall and reinstalled (twice, once keeping the app prefs and the second time removing them).

Once reinstalled, I relaunch inDesign and it comes back for a few minutes and then goes blank again.

To clarify, the actual box that houses the control panel is there, there's just nothing in it.

Have tried selecting different workspaces and still nothing.

Super frustrating. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting that workaround. I followed the instructions and it seems to be working fine now. I also noticed in that Caches folder that I had residual v12 and v13 data. I don't know if that has anything to do with the Control Bar issue or not.

I will also add that when I renamed the Saved Data file and launched InDesign, Cmd-O (Open File) wouldn't work. I had to do a manual File->Open via the menu to open a document. After that, Cmd-O started to work. Go figure.

Needless to say, getting the Control Bar back is a small victory, even if it means working with it docked. I hope it stays on. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again for sharing that info.

For the time being, change your workspace. I always have it set to "typography", but when i clicked over to "interactive for PDF" and the others suddenly the control panel was visible again. then i just added any missing options to the bar myself. *shrug*

The control panel is back, however... now you cannot place an image directly into a picture frame, or replace a picture in a frame  with a new one.  It just places the picture on the art board loose.  It does not matter if 'Replace Image' is selected or not.

Hi Sheila,

that's definitely not the norm with CC 2019 version 14.0.1.209.

My loaded placegun is behaving not differently from e.g. InDesign CC 2018.1.

At least not with my German version of InDesign CC 2019 on Windows 10.

I suggest you open a new thread for this specific problem.

Show a screenshot of the selected frame. Also the Layers panel.

Even better would be a video.

And please, also state your operating system's version.

Thanks,
Uwe

Thank you!  I'll do that.  I am on a MAC platform OS 10.13.6,  but my co-worker is on a PC platform and he is not having this issue.

Thank you,

Sheila

Hello,

How much time it will take to code a working app? We pay for it.

It must be a new Positioning and Brand Image building for Adobe.

Prerelease Id CC2019 (14.0.1.209) doesn't work either...

Most of us who are actually testing the Prerelease version are finding it solves a great many of the issues which have been raised in InDesign User Voice website and here.

I don't think you appreciate the complexity of a testing a deep application run on a variety of platforms and environments.

I know what development is, please! We pay for a working app...

I work with international companies that would have fired me if I had published an update that does not work.

Since installing the latest version several weeks back, I was hit with the blank floating control panel. I reset the caches and, because my control panel is usually docked within my saved workspace, I haven't encountered any further issues. That was until yesterday. I accidentally detached the control panel from the workspace and immediately the right half of the controls disappeared before all vanished a few moments later. This time, I simply reset the preferences and reverted to my original workspace settings (with the control panel docked) and all is well again. Still waiting for the solid update though.

Hi,

We have fixed this issue in our latest release InDesign CC2019.0. I would recommend you to upgrade to the latest version as it is more robust.

Let me know if you still face this issue.

For me, the upgrade to 2019 is when the problem started.

Even when keeping the Control Bar docked it is blank.

Hi All!
Like Bill Silbert's method that worked for him, there are a few work arounds that seem to have various results depending on individual user's OS and installs.
I went looking for the cache per Bill's recommendation, but decided it was too techie for me.... lost my nerve.
But i am still using the Properties panel as an alternative, and really haven't thought about the Control bar.

I just turned it off and created a new workspace for myself.

I'm not about to downgrade a version and have to reformat all my upgraded documents.

And going into all the buried program files, for me...well...um...no.
I highly recommend giving the Properties panel a try.

At least until Adobe solves the problem.

I just transitioned over to CC 2019 InDesign and yesterday my control panel was blank. Today it is no where to be found. I went and upvoted the issue. I rely heavily on the control panel and not having it is a major pain!

I have had a great deal of luck using the method I suggested much earlier in this thread of trashing the cache files and then making sure that the control panel is docked after that. So far I'm in my third week of a totally intact control panel.

Hi Bill,

Is this fixed yet?  I now cannot convert some of the new files that had been created in the 'non-working correctly' 2019 version back to the 2018 version.  Is there an ETA on the fix yet?

Changing workspace => Not working

Scaling window App => Not working

Changing screen resolution (lower) => Not working

Other process:

Updated graphic card driver => Not working

Updated Windows 10 (64bits) => Not working
