Blank control panel after update?

Any buddy else having an issue with the control panel going blank after the 2019 update?

I've uninstall and reinstalled (twice, once keeping the app prefs and the second time removing them).

Once reinstalled, I relaunch inDesign and it comes back for a few minutes and then goes blank again.

To clarify, the actual box that houses the control panel is there, there's just nothing in it.

Have tried selecting different workspaces and still nothing.

Super frustrating. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting that workaround. I followed the instructions and it seems to be working fine now. I also noticed in that Caches folder that I had residual v12 and v13 data. I don't know if that has anything to do with the Control Bar issue or not.

I will also add that when I renamed the Saved Data file and launched InDesign, Cmd-O (Open File) wouldn't work. I had to do a manual File->Open via the menu to open a document. After that, Cmd-O started to work. Go figure.

Needless to say, getting the Control Bar back is a small victory, even if it means working with it docked. I hope it stays on. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again for sharing that info.

Hi All,

Sorry to hear about this error. The issue has already been reported to the concerned team and we are working on it. In the meantime please try the workaround shared here and upvote the issue: InDesign CC2019 - blank control panel – Adobe InDesign Feedback

I manage 37 CC seats and i have only upgraded 10 and we have the same problem on 2 macs, I have tried deleting cache and will keep you informed. I hope they fix this really soon. We cannot run our business like this. We are running Mojave OS.

Well after uninstalling/reinstalling ID 2019 and deleting any cache as mentioned earlier, the blank panel keeps coming back after a certain amount of time spent working on a file. I finally downgraded to ID 2018 as I can't work like this.

This is a known issue at Adobe. I spoke with tech support about this yesterday. Suggested solution was wait a couple of weeks and try it again. Frankly, I think they should take down the "upgrade" until this is fixed.

dovetailpub, totally agree with you on that one. At least the uninstall and installing of a previous version is relatively easy until this "patch" happens.

Thanks for all the help. Haven't been able to try any of the "fixes" suggested as of yet. Crazy deadline at the moment. I'll try some of them tonight and get back to everybody. Thanks again everybody!

Same here. Can't resize, select font, align anything. Don't they test this stuff before releasing?

Hi Mr. Met,

what's your operating system?

High Sierra 10.13.6

Deleting the cache is working so far for the past hour.

did you check this one? Worked for me.

Yes - switched on and off. Reset Workspaces too but to no avail. Resetting preferences reinstated the panel.

Unexpectedly, it partially appears now with no option to resize. This is becoming quite irritating.

I had the same issue. Resetting preferences on start up worked but suspect it could happen again. I have Keyboard Shortcuts and Workspaces preset so two clicks and I'm back to where I should be. PDF Presets will remain.

Update: uninstalled 14.0 and went back to 13.1 to remedy the problem for now. Working perfect. Only problem is that all the files I've worked on and saved as 14.0 can't be opened in 13.1 until they have been converted. Not a big deal but some of the larger files take some time to convert. Would still like to get some input however on the blank control panel as I would love to update to use some of the new features. Any help is appreciated.

Try restoring preferences. Often fixes panel problems like that:

Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences

Thanks but no thanks. Not gonna mess around with trashing preferences. I have so many print, pdf settings it would take me a day to redo them all.  Maybe Adobe could make an upgrade that doesn’t have bugs.  I will wait for the patch. I’m sure I can’t be the only one with the problem.
