Borders around checkboxes disappear on export to PDF

I created an interactive form in InDesign that works great as an exported PDF, but as you can see from the image below many of the checkboxes are missing sides of borders in random ways. Is there a way to fix this? I don't see any styling options in the "Buttons and Forms" window.

An Adobe chat specialist suggested I use the rectangle tool to draw borders over each checkbox in question. I was about to do that, but selecting the first box I noticed the point size was .5. Upping it to 1 point fixed all the border issues.

I did exactly this from the beginning. But my boxes nevertheless disaooear. 😞
