cmd+z not working

cmd+z indesign not working. it will work when i first open the doc but switch off at some point. have to restart the software to resolve it. edit>undo also appeared greyed out and unclickablei'm running on macOS tahoe 26.6, and indesign 21.4.1. I have also disabled generative AI features in my indesign preferences. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and that didn't work, restarted my machine, reset my program preferences and nothing i’ve been trying seems to solve it. I have been dealing with this issue on and off for the past 8 months - it seems to happen randomly, but possibly more often on gigantic files.

    The thread covers a similar issue where Undo/Redo becomes greyed out during use and restarting InDesign only restores it temporarily.

    I’m sorry to hear you’re having similar trouble with InDesign. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps?

    Hi Anubhav!

    A different admin account? I don't have any other accounts… what do you mean?

    Otherwise, if it helps, I can tell you that it doesn't happen all the time. It might work fine for several hours or days, and then the problem comes back later. If I close the app and reopen it, it might work for a few minutes, and then the problem comes back again.

    I have had to reset three-times in the past couple of weeks. Does anyone else have this same problem? I know how to reset, but why does it keep happening?

    Hi ​@lauren_2617, just following up to see if you’re still experiencing this behavior or if clear the cache as suggested by Leo, helped? 

    If you are still experiencing the same behavior, have you tried updating InDesign to 21.5.1 to check if it makes a difference? You can also try resetting the preferences of InDesign to check if that helps.
