Question

Come on, experts, let's continue to work on indesing "sham-missing" fonts and TTF-OTF confusion.

Test File is here

It seems to be a bad idea to collect examples of this, because you see that it's not normal, but it might be normal on a different computer.

OTF - TTF font problem

Font Problem (OTF)

Font missing; TT OTP font-

So haven't been able to find a fundamental solution.

I've seen a couple of posters on the web discussing it, and ultimately nothing. There is no solution.

Some sham-missing words can be found and replaced, some are stubborn and cannot be replaced.

I originally thought it was the ID fonts pointing (in C:\window\Fonts also Document fonts) that was messed up, but the fact that it was only a specific few fonts that were having problems suggests that the fonts themselves were the problem.

Let's all get together, look around, and see if changing the ID settings, or modifying the font parameters, can fix it.

After you restart your ID, maybe some of it is normal again.
Some people have been prompted to clear the font cache, I don't know if that has any effect, I don't know how to do that.

You are welcome to contribute "bug examples".

Thank you very much.

You'll find information on clearing both Windows' and InDesign's font caches at https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=clear+windows+font+cache

Need to restart your computer? That's not fun. It's a toss-up.

It's also not necessarily a must-have.

I cleared it:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 19.0-J\zh_CN\Caches

One of the fonts is normal now

Windows

  • Close all programs.
  • Delete the following file:
    C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT
  • Restart your computer (and printer)
This is important to rebuild the new Font Cache
  • Open your programs (like Adobe InDesign or MS Word)

Windows won't reubuild the font cache unless you restart.

What's the big deal about doing a re-boot? Is the few minutes it migh take more of a problem than dealing with your font issues?
