Failed to export PDF Indesign 2022

One of our users is having issues exporting PDFs from InDesign.

Apparently everyone else can export the PDF just fine but she is unable to, copying the PDF settings from another user who was working and trying it on hers still failed to export.

I can export a few pages at once until it fails but the user doesn't want to delete any images because it's working on the other PCs.

They are using Sharepoint and OneDrive sync to access the files and all the images. She has permission to all the folders that the other users has.

The file path for each item I believe is different because it goes through C\Users\*user*\One Drive ...

This did affect the links but even after removing the links that errored, it was still unable to export.

I've uninstalled and re-installed InDesign but I don't use InDesign enough to have good troubleshooting skills. I can't even find any log files to see whats going wrong, it just fails with no useful errors.

I created a blank document and exported that just fine but the user doesn't have time to individually export the pages to find out what one is causing issues when someone else can export just fine.

We have moved and setup the user on a new PC, local accounts so nothing was copied over and it's still happening.

I don't know what else to try to get this to export correctly, or even where to look to find what's causing the issue.

It's not just one document that's causing the issues, last year they were also having issues exporting another InDesign document.

If you need anymore information, let me know.

Correct answer Ty-Grr

Is there anyway I can export someones InDesign preferences because I tested on another users device and there were a lot more prompts / notifications that showed up when going to export, mentioned of overlapping text whereas the user who cant export didnt see any of that.

I just want to see what may be different on both devices to prevent one from exporting and one from being able to.

InDesign exporting for the user is now working again, I have no idea what was done to resolve it but its now working again.

I believe it may have been the version the other users were editing the documents on. The other users are now up to date and have had no issues.

we'd tested this on 2 of the documents that wouldnt export and it works fine.

I have a problem with exporting ID-files to PDF and I hope the community can help! Everything I have tried - with or without the help of our IT - has failed. I am working out of Germany, but that cannot be the problem.

My basics are: Windows 11 (recently upgraded, about 6 weeks ago), ID Version 20.0.1, Acrobat 24.04.2.

Problem: starting last week I had trouble exporting from ID to PDF. Working on ID-files I had created about 6 months ago, I got the an error message re. missing fonts. Shortly before that Adobe Creative Cloud had updated ID to V 20.

After closing the application and restarting, the fault remained. New start of the PC - the same. Manually searching for the fonts in the ID-drop down menu shows they were not there. I had then the fonts-package re-installed by our IT. It seemd to solve most fonts problems, but not all. One Futura OTF font was still missing, but I could work with that and replaced it.

A couple days later I got the error message (in German): "PDF export failed. Poss. error cause can be found on print sheet 2 (or 4, or 7)." Contacted IT again and tried to uninstall ID (version 20), re-install same version (same problems). Again uninstalled ID 20, installed older ID version (19.5). No change. Between installing versions shut down PC and re-start. Uninstalled Acrobat Pro, re-installed from Creative Cloud - no change. When eporting from ID to PDF, the error message appears, ID is shut down and the original PDF (which was only to be updated) is lost! Then saved ID-file under a new name, export to PDF again with the new name - same problem. Always the remark on the "print sheet".

I deleted the print sheets from this file and imported the same sheets from another file - still the same.

I also opened another, older document in a completely new layout, deleted the contents and imported the contents from the document giving me trouble - the result is a PDF, but missing half pages or headers or ...definitely not ok, also fonts not ok.

De-installed ID 19.5 and installed ID V 19.3...exporting to PDF takes forever, and leads to the same error message! If I do get a PDF created, it is alyways missing content, mostly in the same places.

Exporting to JPEG - possible, but missing contents.

Exporting interactive PDF - same error message.

I am completely lost as to what I can do. I cannot create ANY PDF!  We even exported to the printer and used a free PDF creator - still the PDF could not be created. And all this started after Creative Cloud ran the ID update!

Anyone out there with an idea? Your help is highly appreciated!!

Thomas

Did you try to save your document as IDML, then open IDML and save under a new name?

Also, have you tried general troubleshooting steps:

We could solve the problem finally. I exported single pages out of the document in pdf and found that page 1 and 4 had missing content. Export as JPEG showed the same - 1 and 4. When selecting "Replace fonts" in the drop down menue there was one line that could not be changed - Futura Bold. After trying a few other things we completely deinstalled ALL Adobe programs, and I mean all, the complete Creative Cloud. Then deinstalled all Futura fonts from the computer and re-installed a new fonts package with Futura OTF. After that - bingo! Problem solved! The PDF engine in ID seems to get hung up on the missing line with Futura Bold. Funny though that this font was used also on other pages, not only 1 and 4, and has nothing to do with the error message "PDF could not created. Possible problem on print screen ..." Print screens did not contain this font.

If you're experiencing the frustrating issue of "Failed to export PDF Indesign 2022" while working on your website, Apk apkparadise, you're not alone. Many designers and content creators encounter this error when trying to export their InDesign files as PDFs. To resolve this problem, it's essential to ensure that you have the latest version of Adobe InDesign installed, along with any necessary updates. Additionally, double-check your file's compatibility with the software and try exporting it again. If the problem persists, seeking assistance from Adobe support or exploring online forums for possible solutions might prove helpful.

Running into the same issue. It was working fine before, then suddenly stopped working. After much troubleshooting, my coworker and I are pretty sure it has something to do with computer system updates b/c I just installed the latest system update on my Mac. She has not yet, and can still save the file as a PDF just fine. This could explain why it suddenly randomly started working again for your coworker as well—perhaps another system update had come through later, which then fixed the glitch.

TL;DR linked filename/filepath may be too long.

I experienced this problem today and I noticed my links were nested very deep into a long filepath. On a hunch I copied all the linked images to a shallow folder location in sharepoint and it worked right away.

Hello,

I figured out a potential issue and how to solve it quickly for a fail to export pdf issue with no identified problem.

step 1: go to file > print > print to pdf

step 2: click ok. The printing bar should appear and show you each page that is being printed to pdf successfully. It will fail if you have the "failed to print pdf" issue before this. When it does fail, note the page number it failed on.

step 3: go to that page and see if there is a very blurry image. If there is delete that image. If there is not, delete the page all together.

Step 4: Try to export as a pdf and you should not get the failed to print pdf error again. This is because of an image being corrupted on the page which results in an error for pdf printing.

Hope this helps!!

Yeah, same problem. Just the latest from Adobe. ZERO indication in the warning what the error is - just "Nope, we aren't going to export this! Sucks for you!" REALLY getting sick of this crap.

I just posted the same problem, then solved it by going into System Preferences-select Security&Privacy-select Full Disk Access- click on the lock to open-then check the Adobe InDesign 2022 box. Hope this helps. Also had to do this with Photoshop.
