InDesign 2025 SLOW

Just started using ID 2025 this morning and I'm noticing a LOT of lag time with pretty much any activity. I'm running a Mac Studio with an M2 Ultra, so it's not my computer. I've tried some simple troubleshooting but it is simply not responding like ID 2024. Help!

Here is a thorough compendium of InDesign troubleshooting.

This allows you to try multiple ideas to solve your slow-down problems (which can be caused by many different things).

This is unacceptable for expensive professional software.

Brand new M4 Pro MacBook Pro, 48GB RAM, fresh install of Adobe InDesign, simple documents, and IT LAGS like I'm running it on a 10 year old machine. Resetting preferences did zero (except require me to set up the panels again). Thanks for nothing Adobe.

I'm sure it on the InDesign's team top priority. If it was a simple fix, it would be out by now.

Here's what I know:

It seems to be restricted to Macs.

It seems to be restricted to the new Mac M chips.

It seems to be restricted to ID 2025.

It may or not be restricted to the latest Mac OS.

(Lastly, on more of a minor point, the third-party app Magnet causes a lot of problems.)

I'm on a pre M chip iMac Pro and it's happening to me, so not necessarily that.

I wondering if they've re-introduced the bug where using the spanning / splitting para style in a document causes the spinning. I remember that being a bug in a previous version. I'm noticing the spinning happening more in docs that utilize this function.

Hi @Bigwig9010380 -- I had this same problem. If you reinstall version 19.5 of your InDesign app, and turn off automatic updates, the Adobe tech team informed me that this is a very stable version that won't cause the delay issue while working with your files. They mentioned this is a global bug and should be fixed soon, but in the meantime try installing a previous version -- 19.5 recommended as the most stable.

Go to Creative Cloud > Apps > Indesign module - elipses (...) for "more actions" > Other Versions > InDesign (19.5) Install

And, of course, because of their glaring errors and the time wasting we've incurred fudging through projects and finally needing to reinstall stable versions of the software, Adobe have offered to discount our subscription fee until this is fixed. Oh, wait....

I see version 20.0.1 is out. Anyone brave enough to see if this update fixed the issues or should we continue waiting and using v. 2024?

20.0.1 fixes nothing in that area. Best keep using 2024...

I've been experiencing a lot of the same problems everyone else here has. It seems there are different solutions that work for different people. All I can add is that in my case, turning off all the Page Thumbnail Previews in the Pages Panel, and image view display from High to Typical sped things up dramatically. Fingers crossed that was my fix.

Uninstalled 2025 and went back to 2024. Job done. It was a slight hassle exporting idml files and reopening/resaving but I'm glad I did it. I'll be skipping the current abomination now. It offers nothing extra to my workflow.

I think it's a disgrace that a nothing is done about this issue after a few months. Indesign became so slow that it's unusable. Adobe should be ashamed.

You're not alone. ID 2025 is painfully slow. I just uninstalled it and switched back to ID 2024. Hate that they release software when it's not ready for the public. Hey Adobe, we need to be productive and can't afford to be your free Beta testers.

What helped me was uninstalling ID 2025 and installing v19.5.1 version (ID 2024).

Works as good as new. ID 2025 is a huge downgrade and unless you want to spend 30 minutes working on something that normally takes 5 minutes, you are better off not using the 2025 version at all.

That seems to be the best option. I noticed the problem is mainly on Macs. I've had no issues on my Windows computer. With the new Mac OS being release in September* and InDesign released in October (2024), one would/should expect some issues.

*I have read about a few users on early OS's so it might be more of the new Apple chip.

hi, same issues here for 3 months.

I bought a new computer because of this problem. maybe I said m2 air is so slow. i switched to m4 mac mini pro 24 ram. the problem is still the same.

is anyone working on this problem, is it adobe or macos side?

while other adobe programs run smoothly, indegin is killing me and unfortunately I have to use it every day unfortunately.

we haven't found a workable solution yet, have we?

itried everything, magnet app, font cache, contextual task bar, uninstall and install again.

Do we really need this pain on top of the pain we already feel when we design?

adobe help us!!!!
