InDesign Share for Text Editing Stuck at 14% for Windows Users on Chrome

I have a half-page postcard with small images embedding. I’m trying to save it to my CC files so I can share with a collaborator, but it either never saves or takes 20-30 minutes to save. Is that normal?

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: The other collaborator still cannot get past 14%, even just clicking on a link I send them. The only difference between the ones who can and the ones who can’t seem to be that the ones who can’t are on Windows and the ones who can are on Macs.

If you are on a macOS, and they are on windows, then are you careful to avoid using any macOS dfont system fonts?

Yes, we only use corporate fonts and they are Adobe fonts.

UPDATE: another colleague not part of the invitation was able to open the document via the link I copied from the share window, but not from the invitation. I’m waiting to hear from the other editor before I share it to the rest of the collaborators.

    Hi @Michele S Jennings,

Thank you for the detailed update. I’d recommend trying the suggestions shared by the esteemed expert especially clearing the Chrome browser cache. Please also try opening the shared link in an Incognito window and make sure your collaborators are signed in with the same Adobe ID that received the invitation.

It would also help to have one collaborator test the link on a different network and with browser extensions temporarily disabled (if any). If possible, please try sharing a very simple test file with only basic text and see if that opens successfully, which can help narrow this down further.

Please let me know how these tests go and share your observations.

I’ll be happy to check this further with the team based on your update.

Do collaborators have to have an Adobe ID or Adobe account? It kind of defeats the purpose of having an online editing solution that anyone can use.

    Hi @Michele S Jennings,

Thanks for the update and for your patience while testing this. Collaborators need to be signed in with an Adobe account to access browser-based editing, and they can use a free Adobe ID if they don’t already have one.

If any of your collaborators don’t have an Adobe ID yet, please ask them to create a free one and verify their email at https://account.adobe.com/profile, then try inviting that same email address again and opening the link after signing in. Ref: InCopy on the web (beta)

Please let me know how this goes and share your update.

    Hi Michele,

Allow me to share with you my experience in getting to know this new feature called Share for Text Editing:

    1. It is  Beta, which means it is still being refined, because it isn’t fully cooked yet.
    2. I found it slow, too. When it has to set up the environment, it is making heavy use of your Chrome web browser. At the moment, it is only Chrome web browser; not just any browser. Maybe empty your browser cache?
    3. It often stops being synchronised, despite the Sync button, at which point you have to reset and begin again.
    4. It takes a while to save-as the INDD file into a sharable INDDL file (not to be confused with a Cloud-stored or Project-shared INDDC file 😗🤔 😳).
    5. My big question is: after accomplishing the web-browser text editing, how do I get these changes back into my INDD file? Another Save-As? ☹️

Notwithstanding the above, a like the concept, and I hope the friction points get worked out.

If you want a speedier method, export a PDF, and Share it for Comments in Acrobat Pro. That process is faster. If you really need collaboration in your workflow, I advocate adding Adobe InCopy to your InDesign editing workflow.

We use the share for review all the time with minimal issues (they do happen, but not so often to stop using it). Our text collaborators want to use it online like this (one of them has used InCopy in the past, but no longer has access to app since she switched to a different department). It will be nice to use on some larger documents where certain stuff gets rewritten each year while the rest stays the same.

It’s saving faster, but no one I’ve invited to edit can open it beyond 14%—they are on Windows, using Chrome as a browser. I’m on Mac OS 15.6.1 with the latest version of InDesign. The file is saved on Creative Cloud. I don’t know what to do about that.

    Hi @Michele S Jennings,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you experience this. Could you please confirm the exact InDesign version and your OS details? Also, let me know if this delay happens with all files when saving to the cloud or only with this specific postcard. Please also check if you see a similar delay when saving the file locally and share your observations after testing.

In the meantime, please try signing out of the Creative Cloud Desktop app, then signing back in and testing the issue again. If the problem continues, please try renaming the CoreSync folder to CoreSync1. On Mac, go to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync1. On Windows, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Sync\CoreSync1. After that, please rename the CEP folder to CEP1. On Mac, it is located at /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP1, and on Windows at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP1. Next, rename the UXP folder to UXP1. On Mac, you will find it at /Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP1, and on Windows at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP1.

If the issue still persists after this, please try uninstalling InDesign and the Creative Cloud Desktop app and reinstalling them using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. You can find the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html. Before using the cleaner tool, please make sure to create a backup of your document.

Please try these steps and let me know how it goes. I’ll be happy to look into this further based on your update.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have restarted and done most of the above. The share for review is working fine, other parts of InDesign work, it’s just the beta version of InCopy online share for text editing.

The screenshot is what others see when they try to open the file from the link in the Adobe email.
