Indesign stuck on hand tool

I am running Indesign on Macbook Pro Ventura and the hand tool is permanently stuck in Ensign so cannot select or use any other tool. I have tried every solution I can find on forums etc including resetting preferences restarting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling and checking that my space bar isn't stuck. nothing has worked and it has been like this for days.

I don't have this issue on any other software such as Illustrator, just Indesign.

    Hi @DANI263683028olh,

     

    I'm sorry to hear about the persistent issue with the hand tool in InDesign. To further troubleshoot, could you try running InDesign in system safe mode or create a new admin user account on your MacBook Pro Ventura? This will help us determine if the problem is specific to your user account or a system-wide issue.

    People have different understandings about "resetting preferences"

     

    Since you've tried a lot of the obvious choices and the space bar does work in other applications, I'd suggest carefully following the instructions in this article about how to restore InDesign preferences and caches:

    Thankyou for this, however it unfortunately did not work either. I am at a complete loss now and cannot contact Adobe directly as am on an educational license.

    Which version of InDesign are you running? There is an answer to a similar thread from an Adobe employee regarding getting stuck with the hand tool in Illustrator here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/stuck-on-hand-tool/td-p/13210268

    Try the suggested solution.

    I was running 18.0 when I first encountered the problem but I updated to 19.0 and still have the problem. 

    I tried the solution suggested on that page which unfortunately did not work either.
