Sudden anchoring of text boxes

While working on a document while copying pasting text and text boxes, all of a sudden a text box becomes an anchored object without me intentionally doing it. Why does this happen?

Or just make sure you have the Selection tool active (the black arrow) and not the Type tool (the T) with a blinking insertion point in text.

When you paste with an active insertion point, you will paste the frame into the text as an inline graphic. Next time you see that you have an insertion point, just press Esc to quickly switch back to the Selection tool, and then paste.

Interesting. Didn't know this "Esc" trick...

Oh and... well, it's just not working for me. Is it a Mac thing or a US keyboard one?

    I'm curious ^^

    Hi Vinny:

Definitely Mac and Windows on a US keyboard—I've taught it to my student for years. It's one of the two shortcuts to switch to the Selection tool. If you have an insertion point and press V you'll get a V in the text, so you press Esc instead to switch back to the Selection tool.

Most likely, you’re pasting one text frame into another, so getting inline anchored object.

Select and copy/paste text itself, not text frame.
