Text Disappearing and limited Undos in InDesign CC

I recently upgraded to Creative Cloud. I have a iMac Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 I upgraded the OS to 10.9.1 a couple of months ago in preparation. In the InDesign 9.2 CC. My text randomly disappears while I am working on it. I have to click off it then click back where I think it is and send to the front to get it back. Sometimes just zooming in and out will bring it back or other various things. It is not actually deleting the text just the view of it, but I can't work on it if I can't see it. It is really annoying and cutting into my productivity. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, I am unable to do more than 1 or 2 undos where as in CS 5 I could do multiple undos. Is that normal for CC? Is there somewhere you can set the number of undos? I could not find anything under preferences. This is also a problem as I am used to being able to go back a few steps when I change my mind on something.

Any help on either issue would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm getting the same problem regarding text box contents disappearing from view as I'm working on it. Very frustrating. But I have just upgraded to El Capitan so this could be the issue. RAM shouldn't be a problem as I have 32GB.

Something really annoying happened just a second ago. I Created outlines to text then saved a PDF. did a quick UNDO to my file to revert back to edittable text. Then closed the file. I opened the file again to make sure everything was kosher, and suddenly the text frames were gone. NO TEXT AT ALL. Just the graphics. Anyone have this happen. It happened earlier today to another file and I thought I accidently deleted the text frames, but since it just happened again I have a feeling its Adobe Indesign. and what is with INVALID FRAMEs situation. Seriously Indesign used to be great before the Cloud version. The cloud is creating a lot of storms I tell ya!

Been busy - but this is still happening...

I can have any other program open on my supplementary screen and all is good (usually Acrobat, Word, or Excel). As soon as I try and 'split' InDesign windows to view one on my main monitor and one on the spare InDesign Crashes.

This is some of my Mac Spec:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB graphics

Processor  3.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory  32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F1112)

The additional Display is a DELL U2415

Does that shed any light?

Regards, Dean

SOLUTION (?)

I've just had a member of Adobe's helpdesk remotely control my machine and, it would appear, for me, solve the disappearing text problem.

This was achieved by renaming the two "en_GB" folders below to "en".

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version [#]\en_GB

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version [#]\en_GB

(Bear in mind, I'm using Windows 7 and I'm in the UK so your pathways / folders might be different.)

I understand the disappearing text was caused by a corrupt preferences file. Renaming the above folders forces a rebuild of the prefs.

In previous versions of InDesign I've always saved a backup copy of the preferences folder so I could overwrite the existing one after a crash. It seems this might be the way forward for CC also.

Perhaps someone from Adobe could confirm I've got the story straight.

I am using the latest InDesign build 11.1.0.122 on Windows 7 Professional; Service Pack 1; Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU 2.83GHz; 8Gb RAM.

Any editing results in either the paragraph or whole page text disappearing. In addition InDesign crashes when packaging files.

Didn't have these problems in CS5.5.

Currently InDesign is utterly unfit for purpose.

Any help gratefully received.

Thought I'd add my voice to this conversation. I hadn't had the disappearing text problem until I updated to the 2015 InDesign release (updated on July 9, 2015) – currently running the 11.0.1.105 build. I'm on a MaxBook Air running Yosemite 10.10.2; 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Graphics are Intel HD 5000 1536 MB.

Since the update my text disappears CONSTANTLY. I can scoll so the missing text is off screen or zoom out and the text reappears (usually), but it's a massive pain. I haven't had the undo issues other have, so I guess I should consider myself lucky.

Please fix this, Adobe.

The latest available InDesign build is 11.1.0.122 - please update your app. We've fixed a bunch of issues in this update.

Also update your OS to the latest available 10.10.5

Let us know if you still experience the issue of text disappearing.

Ravi —

(Initiating a routine spell check crashes InDesign @ 40-60% of the time; text disappears from view frequently and at random, and requires a change of page magnification to make it visible again.)

I am running the most recent build of InDesign CC 2015 (11.1.0.122) and OS X 10.10.5. These two problems are everyday facts of life for me. They began years ago and persist, despite new versions and incremental software updates. To date, I’ve managed to put up with them in the hope that Adobe finds a solution, but it’s been years and so far nothing. As RegSputnik said, “current InDesign is utterly unfit for purpose.”

I don’t see a viable alternative to InDesign on the market. But I’m looking.

I'm also having the disappearing text issue. Zooming in and out makes it visible again.

I just updated my InDesign app and still having this issue.

Redraw issues with text are a known issue. The engineers are working on a fix.

Thanks for the information, Steve. Redraw issues have plagued me since CS 6.5 (two-plus years); I’m happy to hear that Adobe has finally acknowledged that it’s a software problem that requires a “fix.” Progress.

I just started having this problem. Created a file and saved it and then reopened to make edits and all the text is missing. There are no text boxes, I zoom in and out hoping to find the text. CC 2014 worked just fine 2015 is having issues staying logged in and doesn't remember preferences.

Any fix or am I going to have to recreate the text??

Thanks!

Evl, that sounds like a different problem. For me, the text was aways there, it just wasn’t visible within the text box — simply changing the screen magnification always restored it perfectly.

For what it’s worth, I just upgraded to CC 2015 and so far, I’ve experienced no issues. I use Font Explorer X Pro 5 for font management.

UPDATE: Moments ago, I initiated a routine spellcheck and bang! InDesign crashed. So upgrading to CC 2015 did not correct the problem of InDesign’s spellcheck not working.
