Text Disappearing and limited Undos in InDesign CC

I recently upgraded to Creative Cloud. I have a iMac Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 I upgraded the OS to 10.9.1 a couple of months ago in preparation. In the InDesign 9.2 CC. My text randomly disappears while I am working on it. I have to click off it then click back where I think it is and send to the front to get it back. Sometimes just zooming in and out will bring it back or other various things. It is not actually deleting the text just the view of it, but I can't work on it if I can't see it. It is really annoying and cutting into my productivity. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, I am unable to do more than 1 or 2 undos where as in CS 5 I could do multiple undos. Is that normal for CC? Is there somewhere you can set the number of undos? I could not find anything under preferences. This is also a problem as I am used to being able to go back a few steps when I change my mind on something.

Any help on either issue would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello, Indesign.  I'm having the same issue of disappearing type--on a file that did NOT have the issue last week. Any way to fix this yet?  I am on CC and am updated but not on Mavericks yet.

Thanks for your prompt help in advance. BDinkar

InDesign 2014.2 Release  |  10.2.0.69 Build

I recently upgraded to the latest version of InDesign via the Cloud app and two chronic issues have reappeared:

  • Text randomly disappears during editing on the page.
  • Launching the spellcheck function causes InDesign to crash.

Come on, Adobe — I (and many other users) dealt with these problems for months after we transitioned from CS6 to CC 2014. Eventually, you fixed the problems, but it took forever! Now they’re back with your latest “upgrade.”

This is ridiculous!

I ALSO have the same problem - only 0-2 undos and text disappearing until I zoom in or out - which really hinders work sinca I use indesign daily. Seems like there are so many people with this problem but nothing is been done about is?

I am having this issue as well. It started this morning in Indesign CC. First I could only do 2 undo's, now it is completely grayed out and I have none. Im running creative cloud on a new mac pro, 3.7ghz quad-core, osx 10.9.5 with 12gb of memory. I have other creative cloud apps open, illustrator and photoshop. I was not doing anything unusual at the time.

I also have randomly disappearing text when i'm pasting text from say, word, into indesign. the entire block of text becomes invisible until i zoom in or out or click the text box. This started recently. Overall creative cloud has been buggy for me, including delayed responses at times. I have lots of ram on my startup disk so that's not an issue.

Out of curiosity, if you quit the other apps you're running, does that fix the limited undo problem? What if you restart inDesign as well as quit the other apps? I'm wondering if the issue is memory allocation. Even though you might have enough available RAM to run multiple programs simultaneously, could it be that inDesign is set to limit undos based on a factor aside from how much capacity your machine has, such as what is stored on the clipboard, or what other CC programs are running? Just a thought. As I indicated in a previous post, I was having the same problem but running fewer applications seemed to fix it for me. Obviously not a good solution, but at least it prevents me from being in a situation where suddenly I have changes I can't undo.

Yes, if I experience this problem and restart my machine the problem goes away for a period of time. So I would agree it would appear to be memory related.

Adobe's new motto. "If it ain't broke, let's f**k it up"

- Limited undos

- Pixels no longer pixels

Just went from CS5.5 to CC and it's a bloody nightmare. How embarrassing. Is there a fix yet, this problem was posted 5 months ago??

Same problem in our office, on all three computers.

• limited undos

• text disappearing

...

This is just shameful.

Well, as much as I am glad that I am not alone, what a frustrating affair. My productivity level is at half as I am having the same problem as everyone above. Disappearing text and very few undos. WTF.

Just like to add that I too am experiencing these problems. Limited undos and disappearing text.

On InDesign CC 2014 (version 10.0.0.70) running on Mavericks (10.9.4) on a 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 iMac with 16Gb 1600MHz DDR3

8 months without a fix for this. Come on Adobe, please fix this!!!

I am having the same problem with type disappearing and undo only working for 1 to 3 steps back in InDesign CC 2014. Very frustrating. Would love to know if there is a solution for this.

UPDATE

Sorry, Daphne. There is no solution in sight and no response from Adobe (other than “we have no idea what you people are talking about”).

I took the time to post this reply as I wait for InDesign to relaunch after it crashed performing a routine spell check. From now on, I'll copy-and-paste my text into Microsoft Word to spell-check it. Clumsy and plodding, but what’s an InDesign user to do?
