Unable to move around the pasteboard using two fingers on the trackpad on InDesign 19.0 version

Hi!

I updated my InDesign this morning and am now stuck with unsatisfactory trackpad sensitivity. I am using a Windows Laptop.

 

Before the update, I was able to move around the pasteboard using two fingers on my trackpad. It was very smooth. I could move up, down, right and left and am still able to do so in other programs, outside of the Creative Cloud too. But since the update, the sensitivity of the trackpad in InDesign is very low. Swiping over the trackpad with two fingers results in either no movement or very occasional choppy moves.

I like to look at my documents quite far zoomed in and having the option to move around the page with the trackpad instead of the scroll bars is an essential part of my workflow. Did any setting change in the new version that could have caused this? I checked my preferences but could not find any solution.

We have started releasing InDesign 19.2, and we have fixed this issue since this is done in phases so, once available in your region, feel free to test and update this discussion if you need further assistance.     Why isn't Adobe just solving this super anoying problem?

        Will that update also resolve the problem in InCopy? If so, when will those fixes start rolling out?

        Just tried reinstalling 19.1. I have the microsoft keyboard center. Scroll wheel still not working unless the mouse is over the scroll bars. Went back to 18.5.1, which really sucks because I hate having to reset my workspace everytime I reopen. But a non-working scroll wheel when you work with multi-page documents is worse than resetting your workspace.

        Can confirm that 19.1 has NOT fixed this issue.

          Same here and I thought I was going crazy!

          Trackpad works fine in the rest of Adobe suite other than InDesign

            Hi,

            Wondering if this issue is already solved since it is 1.5 month old? Or is there at least a workarround?

            Still having the scroll problems with InDesign 19.0.1 and the latest drivers for my Microsoft Arc.

            As mentioned before this is a mayor issue preventing to work efficiently with Adobe ...

              It's not been resolved yet and is still a problem.

              I have noticed though that if I toggle from another program into InCopy
              (which is what I'm using) and try to scroll without ever actually touching
              anything in InCopy, then the scroll sometimes works (choppy, but it works).
              But as soon as I touch anything in the interface, it stops again.

                My Microsoft Arc mouse (mouse with a trackpad) is lagging really bad when trying to scroll as well. This is a major bug and really unfortunate as our entire company has upgraded to 2024 and its hard to get them all back to 2023.

                  I upgraded to InDesign 19.0 this morning and my old-fashined plug-in mouse's wheel scrolling is lagging and basically unusable. The mouse scrolling works fine in other programs. Scrolling appears to be working fine in Photoshop and Illustrator (which I upgraded both to 2024 this morning).

                    Anyone else having issues with this on the new update? Literally wasted an hour trying to find a work around. This plus, other basic actions are so laggy. This update is so painful. Its like Adobe is using paying customers as their QA testers.

                          Hi -- has this trackpad scroll-responsiveness/smoothness issue been resolved yet? I have the same issue: seamless cursor using a single finger on the trackpad; but InDesign often does not respond (or responds inconsistently) when I switch to pan using two fingers. However, it strangely is responsive when I use two fingers directly over the scrollbar. It really disrupts my workflow as a power-user.

                          Very irritating. Should I switch to an older version like 18 or something?

                          Happy to share a screen recording if that would help, but it seems like the issue is consistent with others' experiences.

                          Oh thank you for pointing out that the movement is smooth when scrolling over the scrollbar! I had not noticed that before. This would probably explain why some of the movements I was trying to make turned out choppy - I started to scroll while hovering over the scrollbar and then moved away from it. The general issue has not yet been resolved from what I can tell. While your discovery is still not an optimal solution, it did help me to increase my work speed slightly, so thank you for commenting again!
